Just as the year came to a close, Planned Parenthood released their annual report for 2013-2014. As Live Action News previously reported, the organization performed 327, 653 abortions in 2013.
As egregious as performing over 300,000 abortions may be, what makes it worse is that the number actually increased from last year. A fact sheet from the Susan B. Anthony List notes that almost 500 more children were killed by Planned Parenthood in the last year, compared to 2012-2013 when there were 327, 166 abortions.
Pregnant women deserve real options, but the services offered by Planned Parenthood that could amount to legitimate health care are down. While it remains true that 94 percent of pregnant women who go into a Planned Parenthood get an abortion, the abortion giant’s corporate ethos becomes even more clear with numbers showing that prenatal care services and adoption referrals are not only down, but practically non-existent. The numbers provided show that these services amount to a small fraction of the scope of services offered by Planned Parenthood.
Planned Parenthood’s annual report shows that “Cancer Screening and Prevention Services” are down by 17 percent. Specifically, pap tests decreased by over 113,000, from 492,365 in the previous report to 378,692. STI tests also decreased slightly, and urinary tract infection treatments are down from 52,947 to 47,264.
Planned Parenthood certainly likes to discuss its preventive “health care” services, but such a focus is not only tiring, but deceptive. A scandal surfaced after Live Action investigated the abortion giant, and discovered that Planned Parenthood spread misinformation about their mammogram services.
Although the breast exams that Planned Parenthood does provide dropped, Planned Parenthood touts the 487,029 exams on page nine of its report. Although Planned Parenthood strongly advocates for employers to pay for the birth control of their employees, contraception services went down, as well.
Overall, Planned Parenthood’s total services decreased from 10,933,675 to 10,590,433. The only areas of increase were abortions and STI/STD testing & treatment — which was slight, and solely because of HIV Tests. That should say something. While taxpayer funding did go down slightly for Planned Parenthood, the abortion giant received over $528 million in tax dollars during the fiscal year. If federal law prohibits that money from going toward abortions, then what is it actually going toward? Planned Parenthood may not only be an abortion empire, but also increasingly unproductive when it comes to legitimate health care.
In addition, this year’s annual report shows that Planned Parenthood made 30 percent of their revenue, at $391.8 million, from “private contributions and bequests.” If past history from various funding issues and Planned Parenthood’s ability to gin up support is any indication, even more cash will surely pour in.
The actual tagline of Planned Parenthood — “Care. No Matter What.” — is deceptive. Now, Planned Parenthood is certainly a group that likes to appeal to the young adult crowd (or, more accurately, corrupt and encourage them to engage in dangerous sex practices). If the organization wanted to be more honest, perhaps it could borrow from Meghan Trainor’s popular song “All About That Bass,” and come up with a more honest line of “All About That Abortion.”
