Police say pregnant woman, 8-month preborn baby murdered by man still at-large

Police in Houston are searching for a man they say is responsible for the murder of Ashanti Allen, a 23-year-old woman who was eight months pregnant with her first child at the time of her death.

Key Takeaways:

  • The body of Ashanti Allen was found in a park on April 16.

  • She was eight months pregnant at the time of her death.

  • Police have charged the father of her preborn child, Kevin Faux, with capital murder. He has not yet been apprehended.

  • Faux previously pled guilty to a Class A misdemeanor charge of assault of a family member for a domestic violence incident against Allen. It is unclear why he was not serving his jail time for that incident.

The Details:

Kevin Faux, 24, is accused of murdering Allen, whose body was found on April 16. Faux was reportedly the father of Allen's preborn child. Though he remains at large, Houston police have charged him with capital murder in Allen's death.

Police say that on April 10, Allen's mother reportedly received a strange text saying Ashanti was leaving and not coming back. She then reported her daughter missing. On April 16, searchers from Texas Equusearch found Allen's body near a bayou at Chimney Rock Park, close to West Belfort. Police have not yet disclosed how she died.

Allen's father, Edward Allen, told KHOU that the family is devastated, noting that he had been about to buy a car seat and stroller; instead, he now has to bury his daughter.

"Being pregnant at 8 months with my first grandson, I can't even tell you how I feel. My body is numb. I don't think I can process the fact that my daughter is gone," he said.

Zoom In:

According to Fox 26, Faux has a history of domestic violence against Allen, and in February agreed to a plea deal in which he pled guilty to a reduced Class A misdemeanor charge of assault of a family member. That plea was the result of an incident that occurred in September 2025, in which he reportedly committed at least two acts of violence against Allen. He was sentenced to 280 days in county jail, but he was given credit for 143 days served. It is unclear why he was out of jail, given that sentence.

Allen's father told reporters the family had been unaware of the domestic violence issues his daughter had experienced until recently, because she hadn't told them.

"There have been several disputes that I was not aware of because she didn't tell us. Her mom didn't know. We got to this point and a lot of things come out about the past," he explained.

Sadly, homicide is a leading cause of death in pregnant women, and many of these incidents are domestic violence situations.

The Bottom Line:

With so many incidents of violence against pregnant women, it is imperative that society seeks to strengthen protections for women and their preborn children. All pregnant women deserve to feel safe and supported — not threatened.
