Legislators push for pro-abortion amendment to New York constitution
Abortion advocates in New York are pushing for a pro-abortion amendment to the state constitution in the state’s 2024 election ballot measure. One group is trying to raise over $20 million to convince New Yorkers to support the proposal.
Axios reports that the “amendment would effectively block state lawmakers from passing new laws restricting abortion.” It would ban discrimination on the basis of “ethnicity, national origin, age, disability, and sex” and would create protections for pregnancy, pregnancy outcomes, and reproductive “health care and autonomy.”
“New Yorkers for Equal Rights, the group spearheading the initiative, aims to raise $20 million to spend on TV and digital ads, direct mail programs, grassroots organizing and voter education, according to a fact sheet viewed by Axios,” reported the news source. “A number of prominent New York Democrats are also involved, including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Gov. Kathy Hochul.”
In addition, New Yorkers for Equal Rights is partnering with unions and groups, including Planned Parenthood’s issue advocacy arm, the New York Civil Liberties Union, and the state’s NAACP chapter.
The pro-abortion lawmakers are attempting to stir up fear by engaging in euphemisms such as labeling the horrifying abortion procedures as “women’s rights” or “women’s reproductive rights.”

According to The New York Times, NY Attorney General Letitia James claimed, “As I travel, reproductive rights is an issue which comes up over and over again.”
The narrative is all too clear, stopping abortion stops so-called reproductive rights and by proxy, human rights. However, abortion is not a human right as it denies the basic right to life of innocent human beings in the womb, allowing them to be killed for any reason.
As Live Action News contributor Nancy Flanders points out, “So while abortion advocates claim that pro-life laws restrict a woman’s so-called ‘human right’ to ‘control their bodies’ by killing innocent humans, the truth is that pro-life laws protect the basic human right to life that pro-abortion laws try to steal from a certain class of human beings.”
Pro-abortion lawmakers in New York have been pushing dogmatic views of abortion, including a recent bill that requires colleges and universities to offer the abortion pill on campuses.
