Beyond Abortion: Planned Parenthood’s role in 'medically transitioning' minors

When viewed in context of its historical and current ideologies and actions, Planned Parenthood’s motives for providing "gender-affirming care" demonstrate its agenda to anyone willing to see it.

Planned Parenthood employs dehumanizing rhetoric and frameworks to equate preborn humans to "dryer lint" using debunked images to sanitize the mass genocide of human life. But the dehumanization doesn't stop there; its core ideologies are also used to further separate the minds of children and vulnerable adults from reality through ‘gender affirming care’ practices like social and medicalized interventions, even on minors —which offer direct and indirect ‘assistance’ in the ‘pathway to transition.’ This can result in life-long negative consequences.

As Live Action News reported in part one of this series, the term ‘gender affirming care’ (GAC) “is used as a euphemism often covering a broad range of possible implications.” This euphemism, GAC, can include social, medical, and legal interventions, which may be read here, in part one of this series.

As noted in part two of this series, Planned Parenthood’s outreach, education, and messaging are fundamentally underpinned by Queer Theory, which operates by divorcing "personal essence from reality" and promoting concepts like gender "fluidity" and "bodily autonomy" to characterize objective biological reality as an external imposition.

Along with allied groups such as the Future of Sex Education (FoSE), Planned Parenthood propagates what some describe as a political ideology through its sex education programs like Sex Ed To-Go, which intentionally conflates the construct of gender with the unchangeable reality of biological sex. Planned Parenthood and its affiliates further facilitate this precursor to transition through grooming groups and clubs, such as TeenMP, which uses socialization tactics to target children as young as 13 and blurs boundaries with its adult group.

The Details:

'Social Transition'

The process of ‘social transition’ is not a ‘neutral act,’ according to the Cass Report, but an active intervention that often serves as a funnel, dramatically increasing the likelihood that children will pursue a path of permanent medicalization. According to reviews conducted by the American Psychiatric Association (APA, 2014) and the Cass Report (2022, 2024), ‘social transition’ can cause significant psychological distress and diminish self-worth, making youth vulnerable to further exploitation involving chemical and surgical interventions.

‘Medical Transition’ 

Planned Parenthood also promotes physically harmful practices like the medically unnecessary compression of breast tissue (binding, known as “breast or chest binding”) and male genital “tucking” to give the false appearance mimicking the opposite sex.

Genspect, which advocates for “a non-medicalised approach to gender distress,” and other studies cite possible health risks of tucking and breast binding which can include persistent pain, rashes, and damage to respective reproductive organs. 

But Planned Parenthood’s involvement in the ‘pathway’ towards life-altering ‘transition’ doesn’t end there. 

Planned Parenthood’s ‘Cash Cow’ 

Planned Parenthood allegedly uses hormonal birth control as "treatment" for gender dysphoria to delay puberty and boasts of off-label synthetic hormone use in its "gender-affirming care" model.

Erin Friday, an attorney and mother, highlights the massive financial motives in the "transgender" industry, describing the distribution of "puberty blockers" as a "billion dollar business" that Planned Parenthood exploits.

At a 2025 FTC workshop, Friday estimated that nearly 4,000 minors began "puberty blockers" in 2024 across 400 U.S. clinics. According to Friday, these hormones are expensive: Lupron costs roughly $27,000 for six months, while the Supprelin implant for children can reach $210,000.

Live Action’s "Transing Kids" investigation and "Planned Parenthood’s Trans Agenda Exposed" revealed clinics eager willingness to dispense hormones, even to 16-year-olds on a "same day" basis without therapy referrals or parental involvement. Live Action’s investigator Savannah Evans detailed how facilities prioritized immediate hormone access over safeguards, even when she claimed her decision was only a week old.

• At the FTC workshop, endocrinologist Dr. Michael Laidlaw called the use of puberty blockers and hormones distributed by ‘trans-industry’ groups like Planned Parenthood as a "pathway to sterilization," noting that off-label use can lead to the impairment or destruction of reproductive organs.

• This concern was even documented in research which is sympathetic to the ‘trans’/abortion industry published by the American Academy of Pediatrics (an organization which some employees were found to have ties to Planned Parenthood) found that the vast majority of adolescents using puberty blockers eventually undergo "sex reassignment" surgeries—such as ovariectomies or vaginoplasties—that result in permanent sterilization. 

• Author Helen Joyce has similarly noted that upwards of 97% of children who begin puberty blockers transition to "cross-sex" hormones.

• The Free Press cited Manhattan Institute review of insurance data which indicated that Planned Parenthood provided services to approximately one out of every six U.S. teens and young adults seeking gender-related hormonal interventions in 2023. 

Dangers of Puberty Blockers & Use of Wrong-Sex Hormones

The chemical interventions of the medicalized ‘transition pathway’ are associated with devastating physical and cognitive consequences, including:

• Compromised bone health – approximately one-third of those suffering from gender distress who utilize blockers experience diminished bone density. Studies indicate that adolescents on these drugs suffer bone loss and fail to achieve projected physical maturation, which studies claim leads to heightened risks of fractures and osteoporosis.

• Impairment of sexual function.

• Potential for diminished cognitive abilities.

• The long-term developmental impact on the adolescent brain remains largely uninvestigated and unknown.

• Elevated dangers for biological males: 

• Blood clots, gallbladder issues, coronary disease including myocardial infarction, stroke risks, breast cancer, and permanent sterilization.

• Elevated dangers for biological females: Significant liver damage, heart attacks, hypertension, clinical depression, loss of fertility, and increased susceptibility to cancers of the breast, cervix, and uterus.

The Cass Review, which was commissioned by the National Health Service (NHS, based in the United Kingdom), exposed the lack of clinical evidence supporting the ‘trans’ industry’s use of puberty blockers and hormones on minors. The extensive report revealed several concerning findings, including:

• Puberty Blockers & Synthetic ‘Wrong Sex’ Hormones: These drugs negatively impact bone density without improving body satisfaction or alleviating gender distress; there is “remarkably weak evidence” to support the claim that youth benefits in mental health or cognitive distress from the use of puberty blockers/hormones. High-quality longitudinal research is non-existent, making any claims regarding long-term safety impossible to verify.

• Suicidal Ideation: Data failed to support the manipulative narrative commonly recited among the industry claiming that hormonal intervention decreases the risk of self-harm or suicide among youth experiencing gender identity distress.

• Information Suppression: The NHS gender facilities actively withheld follow-up data, preventing transparent evaluation of patient outcomes.

By the Numbers:

The Stop the Harm database—analyzing insurance claims from 2019 to 2023—uncovered the sheer scale of the medicalization of minors across the United States under the euphemistic banner of ‘care’, with its long-term impacts on the young person and consequential overall impacts on society largely unknown.

While some states have passed legislation aiming to protect minors from being prescribed hormones in the state, with the prevalence of abortion pills reportedly flooding into pro-life states, in complete disregard of state laws, it is reasonable to question how many new and existing ‘transgender’ minors are beings prescribed and shipped puberty blockers/hormones in a similar fashion.  

Due to the vagueness of Planned Parenthood and its affiliates reporting, and the lack of requirements to report such specific data, there is currently no way to know how many minors, if any, Planned Parenthood provided to the numbers reported by Stop The Harm or how many may continue to be supplied.

This lack of reporting is possibly made worse when coupled with ongoing allegations of fraudulent insurance reimbursement claims surrounding some of Planned Parenthood’s affiliates.
