Albuquerque city council gives Planned Parenthood $250,000 sponsorship

The Albuquerque City Council has confirmed in a statement that Planned Parenthood of New Mexico will be the recipient of a $250,000 sponsorship from the city. There are two Planned Parenthood locations in Albuquerque and one commits abortions up to 19 weeks and six days, which requires the use of the D&E dismemberment abortion procedure that kills preborn children by tearing their arms and legs off of their bodies.

After weeks of votes and amendments, the city council approved the Fiscal Year 2023 Operating Budget bill R-22-24, and sent it to the mayor for approval. Included was the $250,000 sponsorship for Planned Parenthood, an amendment introduced by Councilor Tammy Fiebelkorn.

“While extremists attack choice nationwide and the Supreme Court seems poised to take away women’s rights and control of their own bodies, we affirmed our respect and support for women’s reproductive freedoms. I’m proud to have sponsored this amendment to provide vital support for Planned Parenthood,” she said in a statement. “Anti-women extremists have used aggression and intimidation towards Planned Parenthood clinics, staff, and patients resulting in increased costs, delays in treatment, and additional counseling and education needs. These funds support our local Planned Parenthood clinic to ensure that all Albuquerque women have access to family planning, abortion, and other reproductive health services.”

Fiebelkorn’s amendment passed in a 6-3 vote.

Together, we can end abortion and create a future where every child is cherished and every mother is supported.

Like many other Planned Parenthood supporters, Fiebelkorn spreads the myth that Planned Parenthood offers services beyond abortion and birth control. While Planned Parenthood — including the Sante Fe Health Center in New Mexico — claims to provide services such as prenatal care, the truth is that, sadly, they do not. In a Live Action investigation, a staffer from Planned Parenthood’s Sante Fe Health Center was very candid about what their priority is:

“No, see, we don’t see pregnant women as a way of giving prenatal care, we see pregnant women, um, you know, if they are considering other options.”

Additionally, New Mexico is already known for being a radically pro-abortion state, including permitting violent late-term abortions. The state has virtually no restrictions on abortion, and is home to some of the most dangerous late-term abortion facilities in the country.

And though pro-abortion politicians frequently tout the need to give taxpayer funding to abortion organizations, the majority of Americans do not support taxpayer funded abortion. Are Albuquerqueans aware that their city council has just put them on the hook for $250,000 to the benefit of the nation’s largest abortion chain?
