Woman rushed to ER after chemical abortion at Oregon Planned Parenthood

A woman had to be taken to the emergency room after undergoing a chemical abortion at a Planned Parenthood in Salem, Oregon.

Key Takeaways:

  • A 33-year-old woman underwent a chemical abortion at a Planned Parenthood facility in Salem, Oregon.

  • She experienced heavy bleeding and felt faint, and was taken to the emergency room.

  • Though women are repeatedly told the abortion pill is safe, research shows that the rate of adverse events is much higher than reported.

The Details:

Operation Rescue was able to obtain the computer-aided dispatch (CAD) report for the incident, which took place in April 2026. A 33-year-old woman underwent a chemical abortion at a Planned Parenthood facility in Salem, Oregon. It is not clear if the woman underwent the procedure that day or had returned to the facility on the day when first responders were called.

Planned Parenthood staffers told dispatchers the woman was experiencing heavy bleeding, passing large blood clots, and was feeling faint. According to the CAD report, EMTs were instructed to use the side door; this is a common practice in the abortion industry, with first responders directed to use discreet entryways in an effort to keep attention away from emergencies.

The woman was taken in an ambulance to Salem Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

The Big Picture:

Women are frequently told that mifepristone, known as the abortion pill, is safe; furthermore, they are also told that it will be akin to experiencing a heavy period. The reality, as this woman unfortunately discovered, is often significantly worse.

A recent analysis of a large insurance database found that adverse events from the abortion pill occurred at a rate 22 times higher than that reported on the Food and Drug Administration's label for the drug. Still another study found that mifepristone is four times more dangerous than a first-trimester surgical abortion. As Live Action News previously explained:

Recent research from Ireland about the abortion pill showed 12% of women went to the ER for bleeding or infection. In addition, 16% suffered incomplete abortions.

This percentage corresponds with a recent U.S. insurance database analysis from the EPPC, showing a nearly 11% “serious adverse events” rate after taking the abortion pill.

Known side effects of the abortion pill are severe cramping, contractions, and heavy bleeding, as well as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and headaches. Other risks include incomplete abortion, hemorrhage, infection, and death.

Women are also rarely prepared for what they will experience during a chemical abortion. According to one study, women were not properly prepared by abortion staffers for how painful the chemical abortion process would be. Respondents said that comparisons to period pain were "inaccurate and misleading." Planned Parenthood, for example, downplays the reality of chemical abortions on its website, saying women can expect to feel “tired and crampy” and that it’s “kind of like having a really heavy, crampy period.”

This can leave women shocked and terrified at what they end up experiencing, which can include not only extreme pain, but also trauma due to blood loss and due to seeing their dead child.

The Bottom Line:

Women deserve better than the pain, trauma, and death that is given to them by the abortion industry.
