'Dancing With the Stars' pro to compete while pregnant with third baby
Witney Carson, one of the professional dancers who competes on "Dancing With the Stars," will compete in the upcoming season while pregnant.
Witney Carson is one of the professional dancers who appears on "Dancing With the Stars," paired with a celebrity partner in the ballroom dancing competition.
She won last year's Mirrorball Trophy with Robert Irwin as her partner.
This season, Carson will be competing with talk show personality and comedian Guillermo Rodriguez.
Carson will be pregnant and in her second trimester when the show begins.
Carson grew up dancing, and auditioned for "So You Think You Can Dance?" in 2012, making it to the semifinals of the competition. In 2014, she was named part of the troupe for "Dancing With the Stars," a reality television show in which professional dancers are partnered with celebrities and compete in ballroom dancing.
After two seasons, Carson was promoted from the troupe to one of the show's professionals, and won the Mirrorball trophy with Alfonso Ribeiro in her second year as a pro. Last season, she was partnered with Australia Zoo conservationist Robert Irwin, and won for the second time.
Two weeks ago, Carson announced on social media that she is expecting her third child with her husband, Carson McAllister. "We’ve been keeping a secret… a new addition to the McAllister gang coming soon!" she wrote. "We are so grateful and overjoyed to be growing our family."
Carson will also be competing in Season 35, partnered with "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" sidekick Guillermo Rodriguez.
When the next season premieres, Carson will be four months pregnant. While other pros have competed while pregnant, none have done so as far along as Carson will be.
Pro dancer Peta Murgatroyd, who is married to fellow pro Maksim Chmerkovsky, was in her first trimester when she won season 22 alongside model Nyle DeMarco.
Carson herself also competed while pregnant before, though she was earlier in pregnancy; she announced that she was expecting during the semifinals of season 22.
“I love dance. I love to compete. I love being on the show, and I also love being a mom, and I want to grow my family,” Carson recently told The Hollywood Reporter. “So if I can do both and the baby is healthy, then I am going to try and do it all, because women are amazing.”
While she acknowledged it might be a challenge, she said she was excited for the experience, and said her baby would be her third partner while she was dancing.
“It wasn’t on my bingo card to compete on Dancing with the Stars and be four months pregnant, but I think that it’s a beautiful thing,” she told Good Morning America co-host Michael Strahan. “I want to feel empowered. I want to see what my body can do. And hopefully Guillermo will be right there beside me and we can work as a team. And, you know, being a mother is the greatest blessing that I could ever ask for. So I’m very blessed.”
She also refused when it was suggested that she use fringe and clever costuming to hide her stomach.
"I don't want to hide it," she said. "I am so proud to be a woman, to be creating life and growing this human, and to be able to do the show, and compete, and grow this life is such a huge blessing. I'm so proud of it. And I'm going to kick butt while doing it."
While Carson is thrilled to be expecting her third baby, she seemingly is ready to expand her family even more in the future. “I do want a girl,” she told PEOPLE. “So if I can get one now or with the fourth, I’ll be okay.”
