A new undercover investigation by Live Action confirms just how easy it is to obtain cross-sex hormones from Planned Parenthood — even for minors.
An undercover journalist posing as a 16-year-old female called Planned Parenthood facilities offering ‘transgender services’ in eight one-party consent states/territories —Minnesota, Oregon, Maine, New York, New Jersey, New Mexico, Colorado, and Washington, D.C.
How quickly can someone get cross-sex hormones?
Staff at seven of the 33 facilities contacted confirmed they would prescribe cross-sex hormones at the first appointment, even virtually. A video highlighting the undercover calls shows that at the Planned Parenthood in Mankato, Minnesota, staff were willing to prescribe hormones to the patient at the end of a single virtual visit.
“If it’s virtual, you’ll still meet with the doctor, and then go over, like, all necessary information, at the end, they will then be prescribing hormones that would then be prescripted out to, like, your local pharmacy,” the staff member told her.
Facilities in Minnesota and Oregon were willing to see patients within a few days, regardless of whether the patient was serious about receiving hormones. Planned Parenthood assured the caller that on the same day (or at the latest, the following day) of her first appointment, she would be able to receive the hormones from her pharmacy.
A Minnesota staffer told her, “Some pharmacies do take a little bit to get it together. But yeah, if not the same day, then more than likely the very next day.”
“The provider is gonna send the prescription to your pharmacy,” a New York Planned Parenthood staffer said, “the same day of your appointment.”
Another New York Planned Parenthood staffer said the teen could do a virtual visit, and that “at the end” of that single visit, the clinician “would then be prescribing hormones that would then be prescripted out to, like, your local pharmacy.”
How easily can someone get cross-sex hormones?
At five of the facilities, staff said the 16-year-old girl did not need proof of having undergone therapy, mental health clearance, or prior documentation as part of a mental health assessment before Planned Parenthood would prescribe cross-sex hormones.
The undercover caller asked, “I don’t need any like, therapy or anything first? Like, you don’t need any record of that?”
“Not that I know of,” replied a New York Planned Parenthood staffer.
A Minnesota staffer told her that unless she had a certain insurance provider, she would not need proof of prior therapy.

Can minors get cross-sex hormones?
The idea that the caller was 16 years old didn’t faze the staffers. When she told the New York Planned Parenthood she was 16, the staff member replied, “You’re good to be seen here then. Sixteen and older.”
The caller added, “I know my mom has to come in with me; does she have to be in there with me the whole time? Like, how does that work? Because I don’t know that I’m comfortable with that.”
The NY staffer told her, “At some point in the appointment, maybe she doesn’t have to be in the examining room with you….”
When calling the Minnesota facility, she asked Planned Parenthood, “You can do it for minors?”
She was told, “Yes, you can legally get hormones under 18.”
Planned Parenthood has stated that it is looking to expand such ‘services’ to minors, all while receiving nearly $700 million in taxpayer funding annually.
Detransitioners are telling the truth
This undercover investigation reinforces what several detransitioners have already stated: it is very easy to get life-altering hormones in a very short time from Planned Parenthood. The effects, however, are not always so easy to recover from.
One woman, Elle Palmer, recently testified during a public hearing of the Connecticut Judiciary Committee against House Bill 7135, which would protect medical professionals from liability when they give cross-sex hormones to patients. Planned Parenthood gave Palmer testosterone when she was just 16 years old despite her history of sexual abuse, self-harm, and crippling anxiety.
Palmer said Planned Parenthood staff never told her that testosterone would cause her to develop pre-diabetes, high blood pressure, and early onset osteoporosis, as well as an increased risk of infertility.
Planned Parenthood is known among young people as the best place to go to get hormones quickly with practically no questions asked. Detransitioner Cat Pattinson said she obtained cross-sex hormones after a mere 30-minute phone call with Planned Parenthood. Detransitioner Helena Kerschner said her Planned Parenthood appointment lasted about an hour and no blood tests were done that day before they prescribed her four times the normal starting dose of testosterone. She never saw a physician. Detransitioner Cristina Hineman’s appointment with Planned Parenthood lasted less than 30 minutes and, too, she walked out with a prescription for testosterone.
It is clear it is far too easy to obtain powerful, potentially irreversible hormonal treatments at Planned Parenthood facilities.
Live Action founder and president Lila Rose stated in a press release:
Our undercover reporting has exposed a chilling reality: Planned Parenthood is fast-tracking vulnerable children into irreversible hormone treatments with almost no medical oversight. These dangerous drugs can sterilize, stunt growth, and leave lifelong scars. This is not healthcare. It is child abuse, and it must be stopped.
But the abuse does not end there. Planned Parenthood is also the nation’s largest abortion chain, killing nearly 400,000 preborn children every year. That is 400,000 lives violently ended, sons and daughters who will never take their first breath.
And it is funded by the American people. Planned Parenthood receives more than $700 million in taxpayer dollars every year. That is a catastrophe, and it must end.”
Rose added, “Planned Parenthood’s abusive practices must end. Congress must defund Planned Parenthood now. Not one more child, born or preborn, should be harmed.”
