Manhunt underway for alleged child rapist after newborn found dead
Police in California have been searching for days for a father accused of raping his 14-year-old daughter after a newborn baby was found dead on a roadside in August.
The body of a newborn baby was found on the side of the road in California.
Flock cameras and police investigation point towards Sergio Galvaz Perez, who is believed to have raped his 14-year-old daughter, and have fathered the baby.
Galvaz Perez and his daughter are still missing.
A warrant has been issued for the arrests of Sergio Galvez Perez and his teen daughter, after a baby, referred to by investigators as "Baby Angelita," was found on a rural road in Monterey County on August 1. The umbilical cord was still attached.
Galvez Perez is also the biological father of the deceased baby. On August 31, the Monterey County Sheriff's Office wrote on Facebook:
On August 1, 2026, at approximately 8:30 a.m., fire personnel, emergency medical services, and Monterey County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 100 block of Struve Road after receiving a report that Baby Angelita had been found alongside the roadway.
Upon arrival, fire personnel confirmed Baby Angelita was deceased. Sheriff’s Office detectives immediately began investigating the circumstances surrounding her death.Through the course of the investigation, detectives developed evidence indicating that a juvenile female gave birth to Baby Angelita along the side of the road and placed her on the ground before leaving the area. A post-mortem forensic examination conducted on Baby Angelita indicated she had signs of traumatic injury.
Police used the Flock automated license plate reader cameras to collect information that helped them identify a vehicle of interest; within 53 hours, the information from Flock and other investigative work indicated three persons they believe are connected to the baby's death: Galvez Perez, 38, his 14-year-old daughter, and Ofelia Gracia Ortega, 36, who is reportedly the girl's mother.
“I can say without that information we received from that camera, we may have never solved that case,” said Eric Bixler, spokesperson for the sheriff's office. “So that was very instrumental in solving this case, especially the speed in which it was done. Without it, it may have taken years or never.”
Gracia Ortega was located, arrested, and book on a child endangerment charge. She posted bail and was released. Police believe Galvez Perez is hiding with the 14-year-old.
Galvez Perez is wanted on charges of incest, lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14, lewd acts with a minor, unlawful sexual intercourse, child concealment, and child endangerment.
The 14-year-old is wanted on the charge of murder.
Monterey County Sheriff Tina Nieto stated:
“Providing our detectives with effective investigative tools strengthens their ability to solve crimes and protect our communities. This case demonstrates the value of that investment.
Most importantly, we cannot lose sight of Baby Angelita, an innocent child whose life was tragically lost. We remain committed to seeking justice on her behalf.”
Killing a baby conceived in sexual assault is a common tactic of sexual abusers who seek to cover up their crimes, often through abortion. The baby's survival can provide DNA evidence of the abuse they have been carrying out.
Live Action's Aiding Abusers docuseries and investigative report showed that Planned Parenthood in particular has a history of failing to report sexual abuse. The abortion giant "has repeatedly looked the other way and performed abortions on victims as young as 12 years old," said Live Action president Lila Rose.
In the case of Baby Angelita, police believe the 14-year-old girl killed her baby, but their reasoning has not yet been disclosed.
