NFL's Tony Dungy is 'pretty sure' NBC fired him over his pro-life views
In a recent episode of "The Sage Steele Show," NFL Hall of Fame coach and football analyst Tony Dungy told Steele why he thinks he was let go by NBC after years working as an analyst.
NFL Hall of Fame football coach Tony Dungy spoke with Sage Steele, saying he is 'pretty sure' he was let go from NBC due to his Christian faith and pro-life stance.
Dungy has been outspoken about being pro-life, even speaking at the March for Life in 2023.
Dungy and his wife are adoptive parents and have fostered more than 100 children.
Sage Steele told Dungy that it seemed like his departure from NBC "was tied to you being more and more vocal about your beliefs with faith, with being pro-life."
He replied, "There are some things that, I guess in TV especially, they want you to be careful because they want to attract everybody. They want to have an audience of everyone. They don’t always appreciate you speaking about your faith. But for me, I’m always going to do that. I'm going to try and do it in a respectful way, but people are going to know that I’m a Christian."

Dungy has always been outspoken about his pro-life stance, even speaking at the March for Life in 2023. Steele asked Dungy if he had asked NBC for permission to speak at that massive and publicized pro-life event. He said he did not.
"And they were not happy that I went because … their point is, ‘Hey, we’ve got audience on all sides of the spectrum. We don’t want to push away anyone just making statements like that.’ And I said, ‘Well, I get it, but this is an important topic to me. I was asked to speak and because it was important to me, I did,'" he explained.
He further shared:
"They knew where I stood. I knew where they stood… there are some things I’m not going to try to turn an audience away, but things that are important to me I’m going to talk about. If somebody asked me a question about my faith and am I a Christian, I’m not going to say no. I’m not going to shy away from it."
He added that he "was pretty sure" NBC parted ways with him because of his public comments.
"There were things that they didn't want me to talk about and we had a good understanding. They knew who I was when I got hired and, you know, it is what it is," he said.
But ultimately, he doesn't exactly know why he was let go and believes "it really doesn't matter."
Tony Dungy and his wife, Lauren, adopted eight of their 11 children, and have fostered more than 100 children.
As Live Action News previously reported, Lauren told TODAY in 2022:
"We love children; children are a passion, and we just believe that we could pour into them, and just help them, guide them through life. And we had our children; we had eight children that we adopted, and then foster children started coming into our lives. We’re currently parenting three children, and so, it’s a full household, but we enjoy it.”
She added:
“We made that decision early on, that when we were going to foster children, we wouldn’t say no, because we know the children are in crisis, and they need a home. They need stability. They need love. So we opened our door to the kids, and we’ve had over 100 children walk through our door.”
The couple also runs the Dungy Family Foundation, which has "worked with Christian organizations and pregnancy care centers, as well as organizations focused on youth development, in Florida, Minnesota, Pennsylvania and Indiana," according to the Foundation's website.
Dungy confirmed he has no plans to ever stop speaking up for this faith or for vulnerable born and preborn children.
"I said I've got to do it in the right way, and I can't do it in a belligerent manner," he stated, pointing out that despite his beliefs, he was "also not doing it on 'Sunday Night Football.' I'm not going to use that platform as, 'Oh, by the way, stop talking about the game tonight. Let me just make a point about abortion.'"
