Illinois man sentenced to prison for forcing abortion pills on unsuspecting victim

A man from Normal, Illinois, has been sentenced to seven years in prison after pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter of a preborn child. The man drugged his pregnant girlfriend with the abortion pill without her knowledge, causing the child's death.

Key Takeaways:

  • Emerson Evans has been sentenced to seven years in prison for voluntary manslaughter of an unborn child.

  • Evans forced abortion pills into a pregnant woman without her knowledge, causing the death of her child.

  • He claimed to have purchased the pills for $50 from "a girl on campus."

  • Loosened abortion pill restrictions have led to an increase in women being forced, tricked, or coerced into abortions they don't want.

  • Illinois now has a law mandating access to abortion drugs on public university and college campuses.

The Backstory:

In August 2025, Emerson Evans, 32, forced four abortion pills into his girlfriend without her knowledge or consent. Evans had reportedly been pressuring the woman to abort, but she had refused.

Emergency personnel were called to the home in Bloomington on August 22 for a woman having a medical emergency. They found the woman crying in a bathroom, surrounded by a large amount of blood and the remains of her preborn baby in the toilet. The woman had been about seven weeks pregnant at the time.

Though Evans had initially denied drugging the woman, he later confirmed to authorities he purchased the abortion pill drugs for $50 from “a girl on campus.”

Stunningly, on the very same date the woman experienced her emergency — August 22, 2025 — Illinois Governor JB Pritzker signed into law House Bill 3709, "mandating that public universities and colleges, including community colleges, in Illinois provide enrolled students with access to chemical abortion drugs beginning in the 2025-26 school year," as Live Action News previously reported.

The Details:

According to WGLT, Evans originally faced three counts of intentional homicide of an preborn child and one count of aggravated assault of a pregnant person, in addition to one count of voluntary manslaughter.

However, those charges were reduced to just one count of voluntary manslaughter following a plea deal.

McLean County Judge Jason Chambers sentenced Evans to seven years in prison on the charge, with credit given for the 285 days already spent in the McLean County jail.

The Big Picture:

Cases in which women are forced, coerced, or tricked into abortions they don't want are on the rise, due to the easy availability of the abortion pill. Abusive men can now access these life-ending drugs online, through the mail, or even on college campuses. Because information is easily falsified and seldom verified, the drugs are making their way into the hands of anyone who wants them — and the consequences have been dangerous to both women and preborn children.

Heartbeat International recently launched a tracker to document reported abortion pill poisonings and forced abortions across the United States. Live Action News has also reported the details of many of these cases.

The Bottom Line:

Women deserve to be protected from predatory men who want to kill their preborn children. As long as the abortion pill continues to be readily available with little to no oversight, women will continue to suffer.
