Army captain sentenced to 12 years in prison for forced abortion

An Army captain pleaded guilty to forcing an abortion on a junior enlisted soldier by secretly giving her abortion pills, and has been sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Key Takeaways:

  • Capt. Brandon Jones-Adams put abortion pills in the drink of a woman who had become pregnant after the two were in a consensual relationship.

  • She noticed a residue in the cup and, when she began experiencing severe cramping, immediately went to the emergency room.

  • The victim suffered the loss of her preborn child at 13 weeks of gestation.

  • Jones-Adams pleaded guilty to intentionally killing a preborn child, domestic violence, fraternization, and conduct unbecoming of an officer; he was sentenced to 12 years in prison.

The Details:

Jones-Adams met his victim in 2024, when they were both assigned to Joint Base Lewis-McCord (JBLM). Though she was a junior enlisted soldier, they began a relationship, which continued through a nine-month deployment to South Korea. In May of 2025, while still in South Korea, the victim realized she was pregnant.

They both returned to JBLM. In August, the victim was at Jones-Adams' home, and he poured her a drink. After she drank it, she noticed a residue in it and became concerned. Her fears were realized after she began cramping, and she went to the emergency room on base.

She told hospital staff what she suspected happened, but it was too late. Her preborn baby died at 13 weeks of gestation.

Zoom In:

The Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division was eventually notified, and it was discovered that Jones-Adams had ordered mifepristone. Searches on his phone revealed multiple attempts to obtain mifepristone, the first drug of the abortion pill regimen, and he eventually ordered it online using a fake name.

He has since pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including intentionally killing a preborn child, domestic violence, fraternization, and conduct unbecoming of an officer. He could have been sentenced to between four and 12 years in prison, and was given the maximum sentence of 12 years. He was stripped of all pay and allowances and was also dismissed from the Army, which is equivalent to a dishonorable discharge for officers.

“What Mr. Jones-Adams did was a disgusting act that killed an unborn child and violated the victim’s trust and autonomy in the most personal way,” Special Agent in Charge Michele Starostka of Army CID’s Western Field Office said. “When someone crosses that line, we will throw every resource we have into the investigation and make sure they face full accountability.”

The Bottom Line:

Atrocities like this will continue so long as the abortion pill is allowed to be dispensed on the internet, and women will continue to be victimized by abusive men.
