Elon Musk: ‘Having a child is one of the most delightful… things you can possibly do’
During a recent interview with Tucker Carlson, Elon Musk discussed the problematic trend of declining birth rates worldwide and said that society needs to stop teaching women to be scared of having babies.
“We terrify girls, [saying], ‘If you get pregnant, your life’s over.’ This is what schools teach. I agree we should not have teenage pregnancies, but actually having a child is one of the most delightful, happiness-inducing things you can possibly do,” Musk said.
Over the past few years, Elon Musk has frequently spoken out against abortion and birth control, calling them threats to the future of humanity and civilization. In his recent two-hour long interview, Musk again voiced strong concerns with the declining birth rate worldwide, and described the fallacy of anti-natalist ideas which have infiltrated the education system and broader society.
Musk believes that Europe is facing population collapse, because its birth rate is half its replacement rate.
“I think, at a most fundamental level, unless Europe has a birth rate at least roughly equal to replacement rate, it is in population freefall, population collapse,” Musk said.
But Musk is not just concerned with Europe’s declining birth rate. He acknowledged Carlson’s comments that the “American government seems pretty committed to making fewer Americans” and that it is spreading “a lot of fertility propaganda.” A recent Pew Research Center study revealed that fewer Americans are having children than ever before.
Musk had a term for this anti-natalism mindset in America as well as in Europe: civilizational suicide.
According to Musk, the idea that the world is overpopulated is a misanthropic myth. “We have this totally wrong idea that the earth is overpopulated, when in fact it is underpopulated,” he said.
Musk said he believes the earth could double or even triple in population, and would still be able to sustain humanity. He feels a growing population does not harm the earth or humanity, but rather enables progress. Musk said that he would like to address the education system and teach men and women about the good of children.
“I think we should expand the human population and increase the scope and scale of consciousness so we could better understand the nature of this universe, this wonderful universe, and all the amazing things,” Musk said.
