Another congressman is calling for Attorney General Pam Bondi to open an investigation into the deaths of five nearly full-term aborted children whose bodies were found inside a medical waste box in Washington, D.C., in 2022.
Key Takeaways:
- On March 25, 2022, two anti-abortion activists obtained a box from a medical waste hauler which contained the bodies of 110 aborted babies.
- Five of the bodies appeared to be of nearly full-term infants.
- At least one baby may have been the victim of an illegal D&X (‘partial-birth’) abortion, according to experts.
- No investigation has taken place into the manner of the deaths, which were potentially illegal abortions.
- Rep. Riley Moore is requesting AG Bondi and the Department of Justice (DOJ) investigate, while also accusing the Biden DOJ of hiding evidence.
The Details:
During a recent hearing, Rep. Riley Moore (R-W.Va.) questioned AG Bondi about The Five (also known as the D.C. Five), pointing out how the Biden administration not only refused to investigate, but also seemingly worked to cover up evidence of any potential crimes.
“Police recovered the remains of five unborn children, apparently from a D.C. abortion mill, which appeared to be the victims — these five remains that were found — victims of a brutal partial-birth abortion. As you know, Congress passed a bipartisan law outlining, outlawing this gruesome practice in the early 2000s,” Moore said.
“Public reporting suggests that President Biden’s DOJ directed the D.C. Chief Medical Examiner to destroy the remains of the children without performing an autopsy, which the CME appears not to have done yet,” he added. “General Bondi, will you commit to working with me and this committee to conduct a full and fair investigation into the deaths of these children to ensure justice is served for the D.C. Five?”

Bondi said she couldn’t give any details into the issue, claiming that there is an ongoing investigation already taking place.
“Congressman, that is an ongoing investigation and pending. So I cannot discuss that in this forum,” she stated. “But on a collateral matter, the woman who retrieved those five fetuses was convicted and she was pardoned by President Trump. And they were basically unborn babies is what is alleged… but I can’t discuss it any further.”
Last month, pro-life leaders, including Live Action founder and president Lila Rose, asked Jeanine Pirro, the interim District Attorney for Washington, D.C., to investigate as well. Reps. Chip Roy and Andy Biggs also asked for the FBI to conduct an investigation into the babies’ deaths.
The Backstory:

In 2022, Lauren Handy and Terrisa Bukovinac, activists with Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising (PAAU), were outside the Washington Surgi-Clinic to engage in pro-life advocacy. At that time, a Curtis Bay Medical Waste Services truck was parked outside the abortion facility to pick up boxes of medical waste from the business. The driver was picking up at least two large boxes with biohazard symbols on them. The women and truck driver discussed how the contents were likely the remains of aborted babies.
“After he confirmed the boxes were from Washington [Surgi-Center], I asked him, ‘Would you get in trouble if we took one of these boxes?’” Bukovinac explained. “And he asked, ‘What would you do with them if you took one?’ Lauren said we would give them a proper burial and a funeral.”
The driver then gave them permission to take the box. Later, with a Catholic deacon present, they opened the box.
Inside was a red bag filled mainly with the remains of first-trimester aborted babies. But there were five babies inside who were aborted at significantly later gestational ages.

Photos by Mark Story. Babies Christopher X and Harriett were found in a medical waste bin outside of a D.C. abortion business.
One of the babies, whom activists later named “Harriet,” had an incision on the back of her neck, which experts examining the photos said could indicate death by a federally illegal D&X (‘partial-birth) abortion. Other intact babies found in the bag could have been killed by infanticide after surviving the abortion procedure.
The activists contacted the homicide unit of the Metropolitan Police in D.C. to pick up the five older babies for forensic examination — but instead, Handy and eight other pro-life activists were arrested and charged with violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act.
Police held a press conference the same day, claiming that no crime had taken place, despite having no investigation or autopsy.

Experts have stated that the five babies were likely old enough to survive outside of the womb. There are no abortion limits in D.C.
The baby whom activists named Christopher X did not appear to have any visible wounds, raising the question of whether or not he was a possible victim of infanticide. Baby Phoenix was found en caul, or inside his amniotic sac, which again raises the question of how the baby died.

The abortionist at Washington Surgi-Clinic, Cesare Santangelo, who was the subject of a Live Action investigation in which he was recorded stating that instead of injecting a feticide to kill preborn children later in pregnancy, he cuts the umbilical cord and waits for the child to die by cardiac arrest.

In the video, Santangelo also infamously stated that if a child survived an abortion, he and his staff “would not help it.”
