Families around the country are celebrating the arrival of 2025’s first babies of the year.
In New Britain, Connecticut, Andrijana and Nikola Milosavljevic welcomed baby boy Aleksej, two days ahead of schedule at Hartford Hospital.
“It was special, like a New Year’s miracle,” Andrijana said.
“We are blessed, what we can say, we don’t have a new year in the way we want because we were a little bit busy but absolutely blessed,” Nikola said.
In Detroit, at Corewell Health Dearborn Hospital, Chiquita Anthony welcomed a baby girl named Amarah, who arrived right at midnight. She joins with her mother and sister in having a January birthday.
“I wanted her (Amarah) to be a January baby but didn’t know she would be a New Year’s baby,” Anthony said. “It’s something special and she’s going to have a special birthday every year. Every time she sees fireworks, it will be a celebration for her.” She said Amarah’s big sister Amina is over the moon about her little sister.
At Trinity Health Ann Arbor Hospital in Ypsianti, Michigan, Christopher Gray-Walker, named after his grandfather, was born shortly after midnight to Ciara Gray-Walker. He was due on January 6, but his great-grandmother, Hazell Thompson, predicted he would be born on New Year’s.
“I was shocked and excited that he was born on New Year’s and thought he was coming in December,” Gray-Walker said. “But the ball dropped and he was ready to come out.”

Trinity Health Ann Arbor welcomed 12 babies between midnight and 1 p.m. on New Year’s Day.
In Miami, at Miami Valley Hospital, Felicity Rose Pearson was born to Leila Shaw and Michael Pearson at 2:06 a.m. on New Year’s Day. Felicity was expected to be born around Christmas but she “took her time” in arriving.
“We’re very excited,” said Shaw. “It will be so exciting to see her little personality, what she’s like.”
At Premier Health’s Atrium Medical Center in Middeltown, Florida, Rilyn Greenwood was born to Amie Rossi and James Greenwood Jr. at exactly midnight.
And the first babies born on New Year’s Day in New York City were twins Sarai and Sienna, born just after midnight to Sheneece Crumbie and Jordan Tomlinson. They were born at NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County.
And Naomi and Jacob Gottesman of Rockaway, Queens, welcomed their son at 12:14 a.m. at NYU Langone’s Tisch Hospital in Manhattan. The yet-to-be-named baby boy was expected on Christmas Eve.
And in Hawaii, the first baby, born at 12:08 a.m., was Aurelio Esteban Torres to Ciara and Esteban. The first babies born at Kaiser Moanalua were twins Thaddeus Esene and Alvena, the 7th and 8th children in their family.
Each of these babies is considered one of the first to be born as members of Generation Beta, which includes children born between 2025 and 2039. They are also expected to see the turn of the 22nd century, as they will be turning 76 in 2101.
