Pregnant Michigan woman stabbed during domestic dispute
A pregnant woman was stabbed during a domestic dispute in Michigan last week. She and her baby are both currently in stable condition, according to news reports.
A 35-year-old pregnant woman was stabbed after arguing with a man last Friday.
The man was later apprehended and has been arrested.
The woman and her preborn baby are reportedly in stable condition.
Though this woman fortunately survived the attack, homicide is a leading cause of death for pregnant women.
Michigan State Police reported that the 35-year-old woman was injured in Royal Oak Township, Michigan, on the evening of October 16. According to reports, a man visiting the home to see his child stabbed the woman after an argument, before fleeing the scene.
Troopers responding to the home were able to provide medical assistance to the woman. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment, and both she and her preborn child survived and were in stable condition as of Sunday.
The 35-year-old man was later located and arrested. He is currently being held at Oakland County jail, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Thankfully, both mother and baby survived this assault, but that isn't always the case.
Homicide is a higher threat to pregnant women than any obstetric cause of death. According to research published by the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine in January 2025, between 2005 and 2022, of 20,421 maternal deaths, 1,407 were due to homicide. Many of these cases were domestic violence incidents.
Earlier this month, a Florida man was arrested after a similar incident in which he allegedly stabbed and strangled his pregnant girlfriend, landing her in the hospital. In September, a Louisiana man was found guilty of the 2019 murders of a woman and her preborn baby. In August, a pregnant Rhode Island woman was allegedly stabbed to death by her boyfriend. The list goes on.
Live Action News regularly publishes stories of violence against pregnant women, underscoring the real need for both women and their preborn children to be protected from dangerous, abusive men.
