Kentucky House passes bill banning abortion if Roe v. Wade is overturned

On the same day that the Kentucky Senate passed a bill banning abortion after a preborn child’s heartbeat can be detected, the Kentucky House passed a bill to ban nearly all abortions in the state only in the event that Roe v. Wade (the Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion nationwide in 1973) is overturned. The bill would still allow for abortions in cases of rape, incest, or to save the life of the mother. The bill passed by a vote of 69 to 20 and will now head to the Senate.

However, many physicians and medical professionals have attested to the fact that there is no reason to deliberately take the life of a child in the womb through abortion at any stage. According to FOX News, Republican Rep. James Tipton said, “There is no other medical procedure that I know of that the goal is to intentionally take the life of an unborn child.”

At least one representative opposed to the bill attempted to compare the intentional killing of a developing human being via abortion to having a colonoscopy or taking Viagra. “It’s none of our business,” she said. “… [S]hould we get ourselves involved in that?”

The pro-life position is based on the scientific fact that if a woman is pregnant, she has at least one separate human being living and growing in her womb, with his or her own heartbeat and brain waves, and (if she’s a girl) her own ovaries — all present in the first trimester. This is a fact frequently avoided by abortion supporters.

According to FOX News, “Louisiana, Mississippi, North Dakota and South Dakota have similar laws on the books triggering abortion bans if the Roe v. Wade decision is struck down…. Meanwhile, liberal states, including New Mexico, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Virginia, and Washington, have been making efforts to pass bills that loosen restrictions on abortion.”
