One father in India is speaking out with the claim that a pastor raped the man’s daughter and then forced her to get an abortion, which caused complications leading to her death.

The young woman’s father claims that Jashan Gill, a self-proclaimed pastor in Gurdaspur town of Punjab, repeatedly raped the 22-year-old before forcing her to undergo an abortion in 2023. The woman died from complications following the procedure.

“Our family used to go to a church in Abul Khair village of Gurdaspur district where the pastor, Jashan Gill, misled my daughter and raped her repeatedly. She was 22 and a student of bachelor of computer applications (BCA). He made her pregnant and later made her undergo an abortion by a nurse at Khokhar village,” the father, who wishes to remain anonymous, claimed.

The man said his daughter died from abortion complications.

“The abortion was performed carelessly, after which she caught an infection. My daughter complained of stomach pain and was hospitalized. After an ultrasound, we came to know that she had undergone an abortion, and then she was taken to Amritsar, where she died during treatment.”

Though abortion complications are rarely discussed in the media, risks do include infection, serious injury, and even death. The father also alleges that the police have refused to arrest Gill and that he “roams freely” because he is bribing them. Though the father says he is receiving threats for his persistence, he has decided to approach the court asking for an investigation.

“I want justice for my daughter. Punjab Police have done nothing. I demand a CBI inquiry into the incident and have approached the high court,” he said.
