Pennsylvania aims to remove 'mothers' from state health code
A recent draft overhaul of Pennsylvania's health code would remove feminine words like "mother" and "pregnant woman" from the state's health code, replacing them with gender-neutral words like "pregnant individual."
A proposed updated health code for the state of Pennsylvania would remove all references to females, replacing terms like "mother" and "pregnant woman" with "pregnant individual.
Governor Josh Shapiro's administration is behind the language swap.
The changes are part of a larger overhaul, which would give the Pennsylvania Department of Health unprecedented authority.
Democratic Governor Josh Shapiro's administration is behind the language swap, which attempts to scrub all references to females in proposed changes within the state's health code.
As the Daily Wire reports:
The terms “pregnant woman” and “mother of a newborn” have been replaced with “pregnant or postpartum individual” throughout the 502-page proposal, which was announced on August 8. Women who have given birth to a stillborn baby are no longer called a “mother” but are instead referred to as a “postpartum individual” in the proposed regulation changes.
The changes are part of a larger-scale overhaul of the health code, which would give the Pennsylvania Department of Health unprecedented authority to police individuals, enter homes and businesses without a warrant, access private health information, and more, all under the guise of "disease control measures."
“Somehow, in the midst of hundreds of pages of new government mandates, the department also found it necessary to erase words like ‘pregnant woman’ and ‘mother’ in the regulations and replace them with terms like ‘pregnant individual,’” noted Republican state Sen. Michele Brooks.
The updated health code is still in the proposal stages; it remains open for public comment through September 21.
The move to adopt gender-inclusive language — removing the reality that only women are biologically capable of becoming mothers — is likely an attempt to embrace the transgender ideology sweeping the nation.
Pennsylvania Family Council Chief Counsel Randall Wenger decried the move, saying:
“The changing of language in the [Department of Health] regulations represents the triumph of ideology over biology. This change of language doesn’t reflect reality; it obscures it. It erases female identity as a stable category in favor of a fluid concept of gender."
He added, "The Shapiro administration is so concerned with affirming transgender identity that it can no longer recognize the realities of biological sex. The department cannot pretend to fight dangerous diseases with its delusions about gender.”
