‘Cringe’ moment: Drew Barrymore asks VP Kamala Harris to be the nation’s ‘Momala’

In an interview with Vice President Kamala Harris on a taped episode of “The Drew Barrymore Show” that aired Monday, Barrymore fawned over Harris, telling her she is well respected and could be a “great protector” for the nation. She also gushed that Harris should be the “Momala” of the country.

“Momala” is reportedly the nickname Harris’ stepchildren with husband Doug Emhoff gave her. It’s reported that they didn’t like the word “stepmom” so they mashed “mom” and “Kamala” together to create “Momala.” However, there is also speculation that since Emhoff is Jewish, “Momala” is also a take on the Yiddish word “mamele” which is pronounced the same way and means “little mama.”

Barrymore told Harris, “… I keep thinking in my head that we all need a mom. I’ve been thinking that we really all need a tremendous hug in the world right now, but in our country, we need you to be Momala of the country.”

The moment has been called ‘cringe‘ by media outlets and social media.

The “first-time all-female audience” applauded and cheered right on cue as Harris simply replied, “Yeah. I mean, yeah. Yeah, no.”

It’s hard to imagine that a career-driven woman who never had children of her own would be thrilled that Barrymore wants her to act as a comforting mother to a divided country. Regardless of how Harris feels about Barrymore’s over-the-top praise and odd request, Harris has been a staunch supporter of unlimited access to induced abortion — the direct and intentional killing of children in the womb. She has spoken out in favor of ensuring abortion is widely available and easy to access throughout pregnancy for any reason. She has even called abortion “a woman’s most fundamental right.” It’s a degrading notion because it sounds as though without the legal ability to kill their own children before birth, women can’t be successful or equal to men.

Barrymore also told Harris, “I appreciate you more every single day. Not only thank you for going out and championing on behalf of all of us, but thank you for being the mother, the woman, the sister, and the daughter.”

Harris seemed to reject the notion of being a motherly influence upon the nation, and awkwardly responded that she should be thanked for being a “friend.” She said, “And friend. And I love my — and I just — it’s really important. I think most of us — I — I will speak for myself. I could not do anything that I do on a daily basis, much less have arrived at this point, without an extraordinary network of friends. I mean, my best friend from kindergarten is still one of my best friends.”

As for being someone the country “respects so much,” as Barrymore told Harris, a recent poll from USA Today/Suffolk University found that 52.1% of registered voters actually disapprove of Harris’ job performance. A poll from back in December from the polling website 538 showed that her net disapproval rating had “surged by 7.4 percent since the beginning” of 2023, reported Newsweek. From January 1 to December 5, 2023, her disapproval rating increased from 51.7% to 53.7%, in line with USA Today’s findings.

Concern about Harris’ job performance has existed since she first took office as VP. In 2021, CNN reported, “Worn out by what they see as entrenched dysfunction and lack of focus, key West Wing aides have largely thrown up their hands at Vice President Kamala Harris and her staff — deciding there simply isn’t time to deal with them right now…” CNN seemed to blamed everyone but Harris for the problems.

After the Barrymore “Momala” clip began circulating, social media exploded with comments from both the political left and right about the interview — specifically about Barrymore’s comment that Harris should be “Momala” of the nation.

Conservative commentator Allie Beth Stuckey spoke out, saying that Harris “has dedicated her career to the slaughter of babies”:

Will Cain of “Fox & Friends” commented, “Howard Stern refers to Joe Biden as the ‘Father of the Country.’ Drew Barrymore says Kamala needs to be our ‘Momala’. Who exactly is in a cult? These people aren’t looking for a leader, they’re looking for surrogate parents.” And… he could be right. Barrymore’s childhood was full of neglect, as her mother Jaid took her to nightclubs where she was introduced to alcohol at the age of nine and used hard drugs at age 12. The nuclear family has been destroyed in America and its children (some now adults) are struggling with trauma as a result.

Comedian Terrence K. Williams said, “I CANT BREATHE! CALL 911  LORD JESUS TAKE THE WHEEL! Drew Barrymore says Kamala needs to be our ‘Momala’ and we all need a hug from her [laughing/crying emoji]. Do you want Kamala to hug you and be your ‘Momala’??”

Harris reportedly ended up encouraging others to show compassion for one another, remarking, “… Over the last many years there’s been this kind of perverse approach to what strength looks like… that the measure of one’s strength is based on who you beat down. Instead of what we know: the true measure of your strength is based on who you lift up.”

Unfortunately, Harris’ idea of compassion and lifting up others does not appear to extend to the weakest among us — preborn human beings who cannot defend themselves and who are treated as unwanted invaders. We cannot “mother” the nation if we can’t even mother and protect our own preborn children as part of our families.
