Report says Planned Parenthood banned disabled patient over ‘transphobic’ t-shirt
A woman is fighting back after reportedly being banned as a patient from a Pennsylvania Planned Parenthood facility for wearing a shirt that had the definition of “woman” written on it.
Reduxx reported that the woman, using the pseudonym “Jane Lane,” is disabled and has been getting birth control from the Planned Parenthood facility for over 10 years. Yet she was told that she could not return after wearing shirts reading slogans like “make women female again” and “Original Female: 100% Natural Woman.”
A letter from Trish Tashjian, the Chief Operating Officer of Planned Parenthood Keystone, told Lane she was not welcome to return. “The dismissal is due to repeated offensive conversations and symbols that contradict our commitment to creating an inclusive and compassionate environment for both staff and patients,” the letter said. “Numerous complaints from staff members have been received, and a recent complaint from a patient regarding your anti-trans and transphobic rhetoric and symbols has been brought to our attention.”
Lane was told she could continue going to the facility in case of “emergencies,” but only until May 10th. And while Lane’s t-shirts were not allowed, she claims Planned Parenthood staff members were allowed to wear pro-trans t-shirts and jewelry, such as a “smash the gender binary” pin and “they/them” earrings. She further said she was not given any warning, and no attempts were made to accommodate her beliefs before being dismissed. An upcoming appointment she had has already been cancelled, and she is barred from making any other appointments online.
In an e-mail with Reduxx, Lane said she has PTSD, and while she admitted that she had conversations about men in women’s locker rooms, women’s prisons, and women’s sports, she had not meant to intentionally offend anyone. “I am absolutely terrified of men in women’s spaces, the erosion of women’s rights, and the abuse of children that is all being done under the name of trans,” she said. Lane is currently seeking legal representation.
Planned Parenthood Action has stated in the past that it believes “advocating for abortion goes hand-in-hand with advocating for gender-affirming care…” and currently offers transgender services to adults with the goal of being able to offer them to younger and younger minors in the future.
