Pro-life leaders gather to call for defunding of Planned Parenthood

Live Action, Students for Life Action, SBA Pro-Life America, and other pro-life leaders and legislators gathered in Washington, D.C., on March 27, 2025, to call on Congress to defund Planned Parenthood.

The abortion corporation currently receives nearly $700 million annually in taxpayer dollars. Joining the call to defund Planned Parenthood was Kimberly Bird, Live Action’s Senior Specialist in Communications and Public Affairs.

“I stand here today with one clear message for Congress: Defund Planned Parenthood now,” said Bird. “Planned Parenthood does not offer healthcare — it is a political machine and the nation’s largest abortion chain, killing over 1,000 innocent children every single day. At their hands, nearly 400,000 American babies die every year. And they’re doing it with our money. Over half a billion dollars in taxpayer funding annually flows to this corrupt organization. That’s your money and mine — used to dismember, poison, and discard the preborn child. And abortion is only the beginning.”

Bird shared that for decades under the leadership of founder and president Lila Rose, Live Action has been working to expose Planned Parenthood’s radical sex education efforts in schools, its participation in Medicaid fraud, its cover-up of child sexual abuse, and its willingness to aid traffickers. And that’s in addition to the hundreds of thousands of preborn babies Planned Parenthood aborts every year.

“Every dollar sent to Planned Parenthood is stained by the blood of the innocent,” said Bird. “Congress: Enough is enough. You cannot wash your hands of this any longer. You have a choice. Stand with the billion-dollar abortion empire, or stand with the American people — mothers, fathers, and children – the voiceless victims Planned Parenthood leaves behind.”

Defund Planned Parenthood

Congressman Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) also spoke, saying:

American taxpayers should never be forced to pay for the murder of innocent babies, but that’s exactly what Congress has allowed to happen.

In 2022-2023, during the Biden-Harris regime, Planned Parenthood received nearly $700 million in taxpayer funding. As much as Planned Parenthood claims that it’s more than an abortion provider, the data tells a different story. In 2022 abortions made up 97.1% of PP’s pregnancy resolution services. For every one adoption referral, PP aborts 228 babies.

Planned Parenthood profits off the murder of innocent unborn children, so why in the world would the federal government require taxpayers to pay for that ‘service’?

Congresswoman Mary Miller (R-Ill.) said she is “horrified” that the United States, “which champions the right to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness, has denied those sacred rights to the most vulnerable among us.” She continued:

Since 1973, over 63,000,000 babies have been murdered in the name of choice — and leading the way was Planned Parenthood.

When Margaret Sanger founded Planned Parenthood in 1916, her intent was to eradicate an entire race and eliminate those she deemed unfit to live. Over 100 years later, Planned Parenthood continues to fulfill that goal as clinics are overwhelmingly placed in poor and minority neighborhoods.

… Now Planned Parenthood has found another lucrative way to prey on vulnerable children through transgender services, which will likely soon rival the revenue that it makes from abortion. Planned Parenthood is about making money.

… Congress holds the power of the purse and I’m making it my mission to defund Planned Parenthood once and for all.

Attorney Jonathan Alexandre, Vice President for Government Affairs at Liberty Counsel, also spoke:

In our legal defense for life in the courtroom, we face one constant opponent who is Planned Parenthood. And for decades, they’ve come to the courthouse and they’ve used their war chest to sue innocent civilians like our client, Sandra Merritt, who exposed them.

Or they’ll use their war chest to silence prayerful sidewalk counselors like Larry Cirignano, or they’ve recently showed up to court to undo pro-life laws through their ballot amendments.

But it’s not just in the courtrooms where they are fighting; their insidious mission targets vulnerable communities, especially the Black and the brown ones.

And that mission echoes what their founder always wanted to do — the racist, eugenist, bloodthirsty vision of their founder. In one particular legal battle, there was a doctor on the stand and they admitted to carving a child’s face.

Alexandre continued, “Their bottom line is abortion, but we are here taking the fight to them where it matters the most — not just in the courthouse, not just in front of the Supreme Court …but also in the halls of congress as Congress controls the purse, to ensure that not one more penny goes to fund their war chest, not one more penny goes to force and fund their legal battles. We’re gonna fight back in the courts until every life is cherished, every life is protected, and every life is loved and represented under the law.”
