Pope Francis: The west has taken the ‘wrong path’ on abortion and assisted suicide

During an in-flight press conference this month, Pope Francis criticized western nations for embracing abortion and assisted suicide.

While on a flight from Kazakhstan to Italy, Pope Francis was asked about the supposed moral degradation of the west, particularly with regard to euthanasia. The pope strongly condemned the notion of killing, saying it should be left to animals only.

“It is true that the West degenerates,” he said. “It is not, at this moment, at the highest level of exemplariness … The West has taken the wrong paths.” When further pressed on the issue of euthanasia, he added, “To kill is not human, period. If you kill — with motivation, yes — in the end you will kill more. It’s not human. Let’s leave killing to the animals.”

Pope Francis’ comments on protecting life are the latest in a long line, including condemnation against politicians who claim to be Catholic while vocally supporting abortion — including President Joe Biden, whom Pope Francis recently openly criticized. “A month after conception, the DNA of the fetus is already there and the organs are aligned. There is human life,” he said. “Is it just to eliminate a human life? Let (Biden) talk to his pastor about that incoherence.”

He has also used harsh words to describe the reality of what abortion is — homicide:

Abortion is more than a problem. Abortion is homicide. Abortion… without being ambiguous: whoever has an abortion kills… It is a human life, period. And this human life must be respected. This principle is so clear, and to those who cannot understand, I would ask two questions: is it right to kill a human life to solve a problem? Scientifically, it is a human life. The second question: is it right to hire a hitman to solve a problem?

… Don’t ask strange questions. Scientifically it is a human life. Books teach this. I ask: is it right to throw it out to solve a problem? That is why the Church is so hard on this issue, because it’s a little like if she were to accept it, if she accepts this, it would be like accepting daily murder.

Yet despite the clear position taken by the Catholic Church in condemning abortion and assisted suicide, politicians like Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden continue to advocate for pro-death policies, and to exploit their supposed Catholic faith in doing so. In reality, there is never any justification for the intentional taking of an innocent human life.
