Planned Parenthood in Illinois injures another woman during abortion

A 21-year-old woman was injured at a Planned Parenthood abortion facility in Flossmoor, Illinois, earlier this month — the sixth known injury at an Illinois Planned Parenthood in a month, and the 11th in 2025.

KEY TAKEAWAYS:

  • In March, an Illinois Planned Parenthood called 911 for a young adult patient suffering from “intractable pain with an unknown source.”
  • The patient was in process of a (likely second trimester) D&E abortion which was incomplete.
  • The woman’s current health status remains unknown.
  • This incident is the 11th known abortion injury of 2025 in Illinois.

THE DETAILS:

Pro-life watchdog group Operation Rescue reports that 911 records obtained by Pro-Life Action League show the emergency occurred on March 31, 2025. The caller told the dispatcher the patient was suffering from “intractable pain with an unknown source,” and also revealed that the woman had been undergoing a D&E abortion procedure — which was incomplete.

This abortion injury marks the 11th known time this year that a woman has been injured at an Illinois abortion business, including recent injuries in Skokie, Aurora, and Granite City. Illinois has been an abortion destination state since before Roe v. Wade was overturned.

Questions remain about the woman’s health status, as well as that of her preborn baby — especially if the abortion was “unfinished.”

REALITY CHECK:

A dilation and evacuation (D&E) abortion is a brutal procedure usually committed in the second trimester. During the procedure, the abortionist uses a Sopher clamp to dismember the preborn child limb from torso. After this happens, the abortionist crushes the child’s skull in order to remove it.

“The head of a baby that age is about the size of a plum and is now free floating inside the uterine cavity,” testified former abortionist Dr. Anthony Levatino. “You can be pretty sure you have hold of it if the Sopher clamp is spread about as far as your fingers will allow. You will know you have it right when you crush down on the clamp and see a pure white gelatinous material issue from the cervix. That was the baby’s brains. You can then extract the skull pieces. If you have a really bad day like I often did, a little face may come out and stare back at you….”

COMMENTARY:

“If you develop horrific pain just moments after undergoing something as traumatic to the body as a dilation and evacuation abortion – which Planned Parenthood wasn’t able to complete, meaning they botched it – you’d think the pain would be from a very obvious and likely source, not an ‘unknown’ one,” noted Operation Rescue president Troy Newman.

“It’s clear that this mother is in need of emergency care, but there’s a second victim in this, and every, abortion,” added Newman. “If Planned Parenthood was unable to complete an abortion that is only considered successful after a child’s body has been torn limb from limb, I shudder to think what state this baby’s body might have been left in from an unfinished D&E.”
