New Zealand’s state-owned Kiwibank nominates prolific abortionist for prestigious award
Kiwibank, a state-owned enterprise in New Zealand, is gearing up to present its annual New Zealander of the Year Awards. Founded in 2010, the awards are ostensibly meant to honor “the best” of New Zealand, with “people who use their passion for New Zealand to make our country a better place.” There are six different categories, with the main award being the ultimate New Zealander of the Year — and this year, a former abortionist and continued abortion advocate is one of the 10 semifinalists.
The awards website lists Dame Margaret Sparrow as being one of the 10 people being considered for the honor. While the other nominees have accomplishments in areas like science, medicine, and education, Sparrow’s contribution to New Zealand amounts to one thing: abortion. As the site approvingly noted, Sparrow “opened New Zealand’s first abortion clinic and vasectomy clinic, she held the post of President of the Abortion Law Reform Society for more than 30 years and is acknowledged as a trailblazer in the campaign for legal abortion in NZ.”
As Right to Life New Zealand points out, this equates to the government of New Zealand honoring someone for their work taking the lives of preborn children, and encouraging others to do the same. “Dame Margaret Sparrow was a leading abortionist in New Zealand and was the Director of the Parkview Abortion Clinic in Wellington from 1980 until 1998,” Ken Orr, Right to Life spokesperson, said in a press release. “During this period she oversaw the killing of tens of thousands of innocent unborn children. It is estimated that she was personally responsible for the violent and painful dismemberment of tens of thousands of children before birth…. Right to Life asks how is it possible that she can be considered laudable?”

For an abortionist who has killed thousands to be considered among “the best of us” truly shows how far entrenched in the culture of death New Zealand is. As one of the chief judges, Cameron Bennett, explained, the award is meant to honor someone who contributes to “the well-being of the country” and make New Zealand “that much better of a place to live.”
Should Sparrow win the award, then, the country will be giving official approval to a noted abortionist, and proclaiming that abortion indisputably makes New Zealand a better place. How killing off future New Zealanders makes the country better is unclear, but it’s clear that’s the attitude being held by the judges and the Kiwibank organization as a whole. And as Kiwibank is essentially owned by the New Zealand government, it equals to an official position from the government itself. That is incredibly disturbing.
As Orr said, “Dr. Sparrow was trained to protect life; it is disappointing that she devoted her considerable medical skills to destroying it.”
