“Stranger Things” star Millie Bobby Brown and her husband, Jake Bongiovi, have announced the arrival of their daughter through adoption.
Key Takeaways:
- Brown and Bongiovi got married in 2024 at age 20 and 22.
- Both cited their parents as positive examples of marriage.
- Brown recently spoke about how important starting a family is to her.
- The couple announced the adoption of their daughter, whose named was not shared, on August 21.
The Backstory:
Millie Bobby Brown rose to fame as “Eleven” in the Netflix series “Stranger Things.” She has since appeared in numerous other projects, including “Enola Holmes,” “Damsel,” and the “Godzilla” franchise. Bongiovi, her husband, is the child of rock star Jon Bon Jovi and Dorothea Hurley, who have been married since 1989.
Brown and Bongiovi’s marriage at such young ages caused controversy last year, with many criticizing them as too young to be married, and saying their marriage was doomed to fail.
Yet Brown explained that both sets of their parents married young and went on have successful, loving marriages.
“His parents got married really young — they’re high school sweethearts,” she said. “My parents got married really young. They met when they were 19. So we had just, like, really young marriages. We had really great role models growing up, so we didn’t see any different. We didn’t get jaded by all the other stuff, you know?”
Ultimately, she said Bongiovi was the only man she had ever been in love with, and that it felt right being with him.
“When we started talking about politics and how we want to raise our kids … we started talking about really, really big things that I’d obviously never spoken about, and I’m already very young, so I’ve never spoken about that with boys anyway. But to be able to even think about those things, I was like, ‘S—. Okay, maybe I do want to be with him forever,'” she said. “But I obviously didn’t know if he felt that way. We talked about marriage, but I didn’t really know when it was going to be. And then, when he proposed, I was like, it makes sense. Everything aligned.”
The Details:
In addition to marriage, Brown has said she wants to have a family quickly, again pointing to her own parents as a positive example. And while her career has continued to flourish, she never forgot that her ultimate goal was to be a mom.
“My mom actually had her first child at 21 and my dad was 19. This has been my thing since before I met Jake. I wanted to be a mom just like the way my mom was to me,” she said during a podcast earlier this year. “Jake knows how important it is to me. Of course, I want to focus on really establishing myself as an actor and as a producer, but I also find it’s so important to start a family for me personally.”
Brown and Bongiovi each come from families with four children, so Bongiovi was on board with her plans to welcome children right away — with the stipulation that they had to be married first.
“Jake was like, we cannot do that until we get married,” she said. “So that was his thing. And my thing was I really want a family. I really want a big family. I’m one of four. He’s one of four. So, it is definitely in our future.”
Now, they have announced the arrival of their first child, a baby girl, through adoption.

On Instagram, the couple issued a joint statement. “This summer, we welcomed our sweet baby girl through adoption. We are beyond excited to embark on this beautiful next chapter of parenthood in both peace and privacy,” they wrote, concluding, “And then there were [three].”
There had not been much warning that they would be welcoming a child, but Brown had previously spoken about being willing to grow their family through adoption.
“For me, I don’t see having your own child as really any different as adopting,” she said. “I feel like anything’s out because my home is full of love for anyone and anything. And so that is kind of what we stand by. Jake and I, the energy in our house is, the door is always open.”
The Bottom Line:
Though all indications seem to be that Brown will continue to enjoy a career on Hollywood’s A-List, her priority continues to be family above all, with the support of not only her own parents, but now, her husband and his family as well.
“I’m just so lucky that they’re here tonight and it just means so much to me,” she said at a recent movie premiere, with the Bongiovi family all in attendance. “Family is everything and just to have my second family here means everything.”
