Coalition of leaders send letter to Senate urging defunding of Planned Parenthood
On Thursday, the House passed a reconciliation package that includes a provision to end taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood. Just hours later, a coalition of conservative and pro-life leaders sent a letter to the Senate urging senators to pass the legislative package as it heads to the upper chamber. Currently, Planned Parenthood receives nearly $800,000 in taxpayer funding annually.
Twenty-seven conservative, pro-family, pro-life leaders signed a letter to the Senate, briefly describing several reasons why Planned Parenthood must be defunded of federal taxpayer dollars.
Planned Parenthood is the leading provider of abortions in the U.S., and is now the second leading provider of transgender hormones, even prescribing them to minors after no more than a single virtual visit — as multiple personal testimonies and an undercover investigation have revealed.
“Today, Planned Parenthood is the second leading provider of transgender hormones in the nation,” the letter, signed by 27 leaders, begins — leaders including Live Action founder and president Lila Rose; speaker, author, and activist Riley Gaines; detransitioner and activist Chloe Cole; Human Coalition president Jeff Bradford; Ethics and Public Policy Center president Ryan T. Anderson, Ph.D.; Catholic Vote vice president Josh Mercer; Students for Life of America president Kristan Hawkins; Babylon Bee CEO Seth Dillon; and several pro-life activists and obstetrician-gynecologists.
The letter continues:
Live Action’s latest undercover report has revealed a horrific reality: Planned Parenthood facilities across the country are prescribing life-altering cross-sex hormones to minors as young as 16 years old, without requiring therapy, a mental health evaluation, or prior documentation. Known to cause sterilization, stunted growth, and irreversible physical and psychological harm, these experimental drugs are even being dispensed virtually, often on the same day an appointment is requested.
Planned Parenthood is also the nation’s largest abortion chain, responsible for the killing of over 400,000 preborn babies each year.
The organization’s most recent annual report reveals a record number of abortions and a record amount of taxpayer funding.
As Live Action News reported, over the past 25 years, Planned Parenthood has committed over 7.5 million abortions and collected nearly $11.4 billion from taxpayers while accumulating almost $2.2 billion in excess revenue. It has more than doubled its abortions during that time, and increased its taxpayer funding by 291%. It has repeatedly failed to report the crimes of child sexual abusers, coerced women to abort their children, failed to follow requirements for federal funding, and more, in addition to seeking to expand its business through offering so-called “gender-affirming care.”
“Now, by expanding into the gender-transition industry, it compounds its record of harm by pushing sterilizing drugs on minors for profit…” the letter adds. “Congress must no longer allow this child abuse to continue,” the letter urges. “The current reconciliation bill includes a critical provision to defund Planned Parenthood. We strongly urge you to ensure this provision remains intact and is enacted into law.”
Planned Parenthood maintains wide control of sexual education programs in public schools, helping to gain the trust of minors and funneling children into its “highly lucrative abortion and hormone-treatment pipelines.”
Live Action president and founder Lila Rose stated in a press release, “I applaud Speaker Johnson and the House for passing this critical bill. Now the Senate must act immediately to defund Planned Parenthood. Anything less is complicity.”
“Any member of Congress who refuses to support this defunding effort, especially those claiming to defend life and promote family, is complicit in the ongoing exploitation of both born and preborn children,” the letter asserts.
