Two stillborn babies found on city bus in Baltimore as group calls for investigation
Pro-life leaders in Maryland are demanding answers after two deceased babies were found on a Transit Authority bus in Baltimore on June 1.
The first baby was found on the seat of a bus around 12:39 p.m. on June 1. Maryland Transit Administration and Baltimore Police responded to the scene, and then the second baby was discovered; Maryland’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner later determined that both were stillborn.
Now, Maryland Right to Life is demanding that a full investigation be done into how the bodies came to be on the bus.
Laura Bogley, Executive Director of Maryland Right to Life, is calling for humane treatment of the babies’ bodies and has offered to provide for their burial.
“Despite the circumstances of their deaths, we are seeking justice for these tiny human beings,” stated Bogley in a press release. “We have expressed our intention to provide a dignified burial for these babies.”
Maryland Right to Life also wrote a letter to the Baltimore Police Department, calling on it to do a full investigation into the children’s deaths — including the possibility that the mother was coerced or tricked into taking abortion pills, perhaps unwittingly.
“As part of that investigation, the Department must consider the possibility of foul play, which may include abuse or coercion of the mother by another individual, and possibly related to sex trafficking… If the Department does not conduct toxicology screenings of both children, the Department will be denying the mother critical evidence that may be necessary to prosecute her abuser,” Bogley wrote in the letter.

Though the mother of the children has not been identified, a witness aboard the bus recounted seeing a woman who was in “distress” and “shock.” Multiple calls have been made to ensure the woman gets the physical and emotional help she needs.
Every state in the U.S. has a safe haven law that allows a parent who feels unable to care for their infant to surrender that child at an approved location. In Maryland, a parent has up to 10 days after birth to surrender a child to an approved hospital or police station.
Baltimore Police have not provided updates to the case, only citing it as an active and ongoing investigation.
