Tutor arrested for repeatedly raping student and forcing her into abortion

A tutor in India has been arrested for repeatedly raping a 13-year-old student, forcing her into an abortion, and threatening her with death.

Key Takeaways:

  • 28-year-old Veer Singh Yadav was tutoring a 13-year-old student at her home when he began raping her.

  • He repeatedly raped her until she became pregnant, and then he forced her to have an abortion by pills.

  • He threatened to kill her if she told anyone about the abuse, but when she experienced complications from the abortion, she confessed to her mother that she had been raped.

  • Sexual abusers commonly use abortion as a means to cover up their crimes.

The Details:

Senior House Officer Rajeev Ranjan Upadhyay told the Hindustan Times that Yadav was arrested at his uncle’s house in Revtapur village after his victim told her mother about the abuse she had been suffering. The victim, who has not been named, is 13 years old and a member of the Dalit class, known as the "untouchables" or "outcasts" in the caste system. Members of the Dalit class have been able to see more upward economic mobility, but still face widespread discrimination, harassment, and mistreatment.

The girl's parents are government employees and are not home during the day, leaving the victim at home with her grandmother. Yadav would come to tutor the girl in the afternoons at her home, but when her grandmother would go sit outside, Yadav would rape the girl. "When she resisted, he threatened her with dire consequences, compelling her to stay silent,” a police statement said.

The "dire consequences" seemingly include death threats, though the Hindustan Times noted that social stigma also played a part in the girl's fear of speaking up.

Eventually, the girl became pregnant, and Yadav forced her into a chemical abortion. "The accused allegedly administered medication to induce an abortion. When her health deteriorated, she confided in her mother. The parents then submitted a complaint to the police," Nipun Agarwal, a Hyderabad police officer, told the Times of India.

Zoom Out:

Abortion is a tool commonly used by sexual abusers to cover up their crimes. While this case occurred in India, cases like it have occurred in every country; all too often, abortion staffers look the other way, commit the abortion, and send the victim back to the abuser.

In the United States, Live Action’s Aiding Abusers investigation found a systemic, decades-long cover-up of child sexual abuse at Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest abortion chain. The video series included sex trafficking, recorded cases, interviews with former workers, and more. Real-life predators are also known to have been aided by Planned Parenthood, with staffers caught encouraging traffickers and abusers to pose as the parents of minors and lie about the ages of their victims.
