Pussycat Dolls star opens up about regret after ‘multiple abortions’

Several years ago, Kaya Jones — who shot to fame as a member of the music group Pussycat Dolls — spoke about the evils of abortion, and how Hollywood pressures young women to have them at the threat of their careers. Now, she’s spoken further about the issue, including admitting that she has undergone multiple abortions herself.

Jones, whose real name is Chrystal Neria, appeared on the “Speak Out” with host Christine Yeargin, and explained that she wanted to warn other women against making the same choices she had. Now 38, she said her first abortion was as a teenager, and though she was a minor, she was able to undergo the procedure without her family’s knowledge. This first abortion would pave the way for the others to follow.

“After the first one, you don’t think you’ve done anything wrong,” she said. “It’s been normalized. And what is a line until you’ve crossed it? … Once you’ve crossed that line, it’s a very slippery slope to continue to cross those lines.”

Later, she became a member of the Pussycat Dolls, but this time, the decision to have an abortion wasn’t fully her own.

“I was told to get rid of it,” she said. “And at that point, because I had already gone through an abortion previously, I didn’t think it was that big of a deal.”

Finally, at the age of 30, Jones was raped. Though she initially wanted to keep her child, she said the stress, along with “complications,” led her to have an abortion again. And ultimately, she said it came back again to that first abortion as a teenager. “When you’ve had one, you think you can keep having them,” she said.

Now, she hopes her story will show other women the reality of abortion — and how it will affect them. “You will regret it your whole life,” she said. “Even if I become a mother tomorrow, and I’m happily married and all is well, I’m still going to regret the three children I did not have.”

The only thing that helps now, she explained, is leaning on her faith.

“It is very painful. There is a lot of anger. There’s a lot of frustration,” she said. “There’s a lack of knowledge. There’s a lot of regrets. And nothing can make that go away other than God himself when you lay it at his feet and ask for salvation on these issues.”

In her previous comments about abortion, Jones made comments that may have been secretly referring to her own experiences. “Hollywood elites push eating disorders, sex, drugs, & abortion on young women in the entertainment industry,” she tweeted, and in a follow-up interview with the Media Research Center, added, “I know personally with people that I have been in business with, that have been affected by it, and have been asked to do things that they don’t want to do.”

Jones is also not the only member of the Pussycat Dolls to condemn abortion. Lead vocalist Nicole Scherzinger also spoke out against abortion, and encouraged people to choose life instead of death.

“My mum got pregnant with me when she was 17 and had me when she was 18,” she said. “She chose. Her parents were never going to let her have an abortion. So I came out, so I just want to you know encourage everybody to keep your babies.”
