In an exclusive interview with Live Action founder and president Lila Rose, Dr. Calum Miller spoke about the patients who helped solidify his pro-life stance, and exposed the contradictions of the abortion law in the United Kingdom (UK).
Key Takeaways:
- In a video for Live Action “Exclusives,” Dr. Calum Miller shared how he went from pro-abortion to pro-life.
- He shared about two special patients who helped him clearly see that abortion is wrong.
- Miller also discussed the current “death cult” in the UK parliament, and how Western governments are blackmailing pro-life nations into legalizing abortion.
The Details:
Dr. Calum Miller is an outspoken pro-life doctor and researcher who studied at Oxford, and grew up supporting abortion. It was during medical school that he realized “this is a human being” in the womb, and that abortion is wrong.
“And it was indisputable because the science clearly showed this human life begins at fertilization,” Miller said. “There is a life. Abortion clearly ends that life. And that just led me on this really insane journey that I never expected to be [in,] fighting for unborn children, fighting for women, and for families. And really just totally changed my life. I was super liberal on most things, became a real mix politically, but definitely very pro-life.”
He told Rose that there were specific patients who helped to solidify his pro-life position: twin babies — and their mother, who underwent a c-section to deliver them.
“[A]t one point, one of the twin babies is outside the womb. And this is a baby with full human rights, a human being, a person just like anyone else, you and me. Their twin brother or sister, I could see them inside. I could see one twin outside, one twin inside, and the one inside had no rights at all. And that just kind of solidified to me the craziness [of the idea] that birth is what defines us as human beings and gives us our value,” he said.
The Big Picture:
Miller also spoke about the current laws in the UK surrounding abortion, especially laws prohibiting freedom of speech.
“This is a genuine systemic problem all across Europe,” he said.
Rose added, “There have been several pro-life advocates in the UK who have been arrested and faced charges or fines for — or even potential sentences — for praying outside … places where abortions are being committed.”
Miller confirmed that pro-life friends of his — including a Catholic priest who simply had a pro-life bumper sticker on his car — have been arrested, adding that his wife was arrested for wearing a t-shirt with certain wording on it.
“It’s not even a freedom of speech issue now. It’s a freedom of thought issue,” he noted. “These people are literally being arrested for thought crimes and prosecuted as a result.”
Miller further explained that Western governments, like those in the UK and the U.S., are telling other nations that they will only send humanitarian aid to them if they legalize abortion, even though these nations are pro-life. He called it “pure blackmail” and “ideological colonialism.”
The Biden administration “promised the country of Sierra Leone $500 million,” said Miller. “They said, ‘You’ve won this award. We’re going to give you the money.'” But there was a catch. “They said, ‘We’re only going to give you this money if you legalize abortion,’ which is a horrifying thing to do just in terms of killing children, in terms of ideological colonialism, in terms of using your taxpayer dollars to do that.”
Miller also spoke with Rose about the UK’s recent bills to decriminalize abortion and to legalize physician-assisted suicide, and the current socialist supermajority in the UK government that is being dubbed a “death cult.”
