Alabama AG tells abortion pill businesses to cease and desist operations

Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall has sent cease and desist letters to six abortion pill businesses illegally mailing abortion pill into the state.

Key Takeaways:

  • Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall has ordered six abortion businesses to cease advertising and mailing abortion drugs into the state.

  • Alabama law protects most preborn children from abortion and prohibits the distribution of abortion-inducing drugs.

  • Multiple studies have shown that the abortion pill is dangerous to women and is obviously lethal to preborn human beings.

The Details:

According to a press release, AG Marshall's office sent the cease-and-desist letters to six businesses on June 9.

Each company is accused of "illegally advertising, facilitating, and enabling the sale and procurement of chemical abortion-inducing drugs to consumers in Alabama." Alabama law protects nearly all preborn children from abortion, and it also prohibits the mailing of chemical abortion drugs like the abortion pill.

Never miss the latest news in the fight for life.

The letters demand that the recipients halt all advertising and illegal distribution of abortion-inducing drugs within the state. Violators face possible legal action under illegal trade practices, which includes a fine of up to $2,000 per violation.

“Alabama’s law is clear, abortion is illegal in this state. These companies are not only breaking the law, they are deceiving Alabama consumers about the very real dangers of these drugs. That stops now. Anyone who tries to exploit Alabamians for profit while flouting our laws will be prosecuted to the fullest extent permitted by law,” AG Marshall said in the release, adding:

Each company assures women that abortion pills are “safe,” even though medical evidence directly contradicts the claim. For instance, a 2025 analysis of an all-payer insurance claims database identified that of 865,727 women prescribed Mifepristone, 10.93 percent experienced serious adverse symptoms including sepsis, infection, hemorrhaging, and other life-threatening complications.

The cease-and-desist letters were sent to Plan C, a project of Possibility Labs, San Francisco, CA; Southern Woven, New York, NY; ybycmeds, Sanborn, NY; Abortion Pills in Private, United Arab Emirates; Red State Access, New York, NY; and Cambridge Reproductive Health Consultants, Cambridge, MA.

Why It Matters:

Though the Supreme Court's decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization allowed states to create their own laws surrounding abortion, these laws are being undermined by abortion businesses that advertise and mail abortion-inducing drugs into pro-life states.

As noted in Marshall's press release, the abortion pill is risky for women despite the abortion industry's claims otherwise. A recent analysis of a large insurance database found that adverse events (complications) from the abortion pill occurred at a rate 22 times higher than that reported on the Food and Drug Administration's label for the drug. Still another study found that the abortion pill is four times more dangerous than a first-trimester surgical abortion.

Complications from the pill can include severe cramping, contractions, and heavy bleeding, as well as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and headaches. Other risks include incomplete abortion, hemorrhage, infection, and even death.

The Bottom Line:

Both women and their preborn children deserve to be protected from the dangers of the abortion pill and other chemical abortion-inducing drugs.
