REPORT: Planned Parenthood closes Albuquerque abortion facility

A pro-life group in New Mexico reports that a Planned Parenthood facility in Albuquerque is permanently closed, just months after it had begun committing abortions again.

Key Takeaways:

  • The Northeast Heights facility in Albuquerque is permanently closed, according to Abortion-Free New Mexico.

  • Services will reportedly be moved to Planned Parenthood's Eubank Health Center instead.

  • Abortion facilities are closing and consolidating as the abortion industry moves to promote telehealth abortion instead.

The Details:

Abortion-Free New Mexico reported that Planned Parenthood's Northeast Heights facility in Albuquerque, New Mexico, has permanently closed and is referring clients to its Eubank location instead. The Northeast Heights facility had just reopened and begun committing abortions again earlier this year.

“New Mexico’s political leaders have gone all-in on abortion — using taxpayer dollars and government policy to prop up the industry. Yet despite those efforts, abortion facilities are consolidating and closing around us. This closure is great news and proof that the abortion industry is not invincible," Abortion Free New Mexico's Tara Shaver said.

Executive Director Bud Shaver added:

"Despite New Mexico leaders pouring taxpayer money into abortion and using government policy to prop up the industry, abortion facilities are still consolidating and closing.

More Americans are identifying as pro-life, while the abortion industry faces mounting legal, financial and operational pressure nationwide. New Mexico’s leaders cannot prop up a failing industry forever. Taxpayer resources should support mothers, children and life-affirming alternatives — not abortion."

The Big Picture:

After the fall of Roe v. Wade, the Albuquerque City Council gave Planned Parenthood $250,000 in taxpayer funding; the governor, meanwhile, authorized $10 million for a state-funded abortion facility, albeit not in Albuquerque.

Abortion is heavily protected in New Mexico, and the state had the highest abortion rate of any in the country in 2025. In other words, Planned Parenthood's closure is likely not due to a lack of government support or funding, nor a lack of clientele.

This is more likely due to a larger, industry-wide strategy of closing physical abortion facilities to transition towards so-called virtual health centers instead. By now, this has been thoroughly  documented, with consolidation of facilities and merging of affiliates now typical for Planned Parenthood, having happened multiple times in recent years.

As Live Action Research Fellow Carole Novielli explained:

From 2024-25, before the BBB took effect, a record breaking $832 million was funneled to Planned Parenthood from taxpayers’ pockets while it killed more than 434,000 preborn children – a record number on both counts.

During that same "killer year," Planned Parenthood’s own reports showed plummeting health care services, like cancer screenings and well woman exams, among other actual health services, all while reporting net assets of more than $3.1 billion.

The majority of abortions are now committed by pill, and pivoting to telehealth allows Planned Parenthood to focus on its biggest source of revenue, while cutting down on the costs associated with brick-and-mortar facilities. Since federal Medicaid defunding in July 2025, the abortion corporation has closed no more than 30 of its brick-and-mortar centers, while opening other centers.

The Bottom Line:

The closure of an abortion facility is a victory, but pro-lifers must remain vigilant, as more often than not, these closures are part of an overall strategy from the abortion industry.
