NYC Mayor Mamdani promises tens of millions to fund abortion, cross-sex 'treatments'
New York City Mayor (and friend to Planned Parenthood) Zohran Mamdani spoke at a “Pride” Month event last week, during which he touted his administration's "$15 million investment in gender-affirming care." Planned Parenthood of Greater New York (PPGNY) offers 'gender-affirming care' for patients as young as 16, including cross-sex hormones, puberty blockers, and surgery referrals.
Despite the City's looming budget crisis, Mamdani has said he would allocate $65 million to so-called 'gender-affirming care,' including funding community health providers that offer such 'services.'
At the Pride event, Mamdani touted the $15 million his administration has given to 'gender-affirming' initiatives.
He previously promised $65 million to such efforts, which included funding for community health centers, which Planned Parenthood claims to be.
Planned Parenthood of Greater New York Votes PAC endorsed Mamdani in 2025, and Planned Parenthood Greater New York offers 'gender-affirming' services, including to minors.
While running for mayor of New York City, democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani vowed to make NYC an “LGBTQIA+ Sanctuary City,” promising to “immediately” allocate $65 million of taxpayer-subsidized funding toward ‘gender-affirming care’ (GAC). As a supporter of a socialist economic and political ideology, which historically denies the basic fundamental rights of preborn children, Mamdani also promised to “double city tax funding” for NYC's Abortion Access Hub and NY State’s Abortion Access Fund. These campaign promises earned Mamdani the endorsement of Planned Parenthood of Greater New York Votes PAC in July 2025.
Live Action News previously explained that Planned Parenthood views both GAC and abortion through the lens of its “core principle” of “bodily autonomy,” which it defines as “having the power to make personal decisions about one’s own body and future, free from political interference, violence, and oppression.” Consequently, Mamdani and Planned Parenthood promote the same dehumanizing propaganda and want to use taxpayer funds to fuel the pro-'gender-affirming care' and abortion agendas.
During a recent “Pride Month” event, Mamdani explained:
"As a first step, my administration has made a $15 million investment in gender affirming care over the next two years. And we will continue to use every tool at our disposal to ensure that trans and gender non-conforming New Yorkers can live with dignity, safety, and freedom they deserve."
Planned Parenthood of Greater New York boasts 6,755 'gender affirming hormone therapy visits' in its annual report ending June 30, 2025. It offers this 'service' at every PPGNY location, with 14 centers offering hormones to minors. In the report, it states:
Select PPGNY health centers provide gender-affirming hormone therapy for people aged 16 and 17. Minors must have a parent present for consent.... Many patients receive their prescriptions the day of their first appointment after having conversations with the clinician if appropriate. There is no prescribed number of appointments or waiting period to get prescriptions – it is individualized.
A recent Gallup poll indicated that support for abortion and GAC, particularly for minors, has decreased across the political spectrum among Americans polled.
Despite this, some Mamdani supporters criticized the wide difference in amounts —$65 million promised vs. $15 million given — and the alleged exclusion of GAC 'treatments' for minors in his recently announced appropriations. These differences could be due to the “fiscal crisis” that has caused the “largest budget gap the City has faced since the Great Recession,” according to NYC’s Executive Budget for fiscal year (FY) 2027.
To combat alleged budgetary deficits, Mamdani and Governor Kathy Hochul announced $1.5 billion in aid from the state to help fund Mamdani’s initiatives, which include $60 million for “public health” — including GAC and abortions.
In May, the FY 2027 NYC Budget was released with Mamdani pointing to the previous gubernatorial administration and federal cuts for financial deficits. Still, the Division of Family and Child Health reported connecting over 14,000 women to abortion through the NYC Abortion HUB from November 2022 to January 2026. The Mayor’s Analysis of Agency Budget for fiscal year 2027 reported that, of out-of-state women who called or texted to obtain access to abortion, “75 percent of patients were from Texas, Georgia, and Florida.”
New York has increasingly allocated state funding for abortion and GAC, both of which are legal in the state for adults and minors. In April, Planned Parenthood affiliates claimed that funding and reimbursements for abortions had been delayed.
Despite this claim, PPGNY reported 32,452 in-clinic and chemical abortions in its annual report, which increased from 28,086 in 2022. Furthermore, PPGNY reported over a 75% increase that same year in the number of ‘gender-affirming hormone treatments.’
Despite the ongoing “fiscal crisis,” which Mamdani claimed to be the “largest budget gap the City has faced since the Great Recession,” the Mayor and the state executive and legislative branches continue to boastfully prioritize funding for induced abortion — including of preborn children brought in from out-of-state — and sex-rejecting, life-altering practices.
