‘Disgusting’: Social media users react to state official’s March Madness abortion bracket
Every year, millions of people participate in March Madness, an NCAA single-elimination basketball tournament. Using brackets, people select winners and compete against other fans to see whose bracket will win. Now, this activity has been exploited by a pro-abortion politician, who took advantage of the opportunity to promote abortion.
Minnesota Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan shared her brackets on X (formerly known as Twitter), but explained she picked the winners in each round based on the level of abortion support in each state where the school is located. “I filled out my brackets based on whether those schools are located in a state that protects access to abortion care,” she said. “By this measurement, it’s only fair that Minnesota didn’t make the tournament because they’d have been a favorite for the title.”
Flanagan further explained that she used Planned Parenthood — the nation’s largest abortion business — to determine just how pro-abortion each state is.
“In situations where both teams were from states that guarantee abortion access with little to no restrictions, I picked the higher seed as a tie-breaker. I did the same if there was a matchup of teams from states that have banned abortion,” she continued. “In the end, I picked a Final Four of teams from states that guarantee abortion access, with UConn winning the men’s title and USC winning the women’s. I look forward to the day when there’s universal abortion access and this method is obsolete. Let’s go.”
The response was overwhelmingly negative, with people horrified at her brackets flooding her replies.
“March Madness wants to abort this bracket,” one person wrote. Another tweeted, “You’re truly disgusting… and I say this as a pro-choice woman.” Another noted, “This seems like an unhealthy obsession.”
Minnesota is one of the most pro-abortion states in the country, even passing a bill in January which allows for on-demand, taxpayer-funded abortion through all three trimesters of pregnancy. But for women who want to keep their babies, Minnesota politicians seemingly aren’t interested in giving any support, having eliminated funding for pregnancy resource centers — and showing just how much of a priority the killing of preborn children is in Minnesota.
