·Kieran Culkin and wife expecting third baby months after his famous Oscars speech
Actor Kieran Culkin and his wife Jazz Charton shared that they are expecting their third child less than a year after the actor asked his wife for another baby during his Oscar acceptance speech.
Actor Kieran Culkin and his wife Jazz Charton are expecting their third child.
Culkin famously announced during his 2024 Emmy speech and 2025 Oscar speech that he wanted more children.
He has been outspoken about his love for his family, saying "nothing else matters" outside of being a father.
Kieran Culkin's baby dream has come true, as the actor and his wife, Jazz, announced they are expecting their third child.
Culkin placed his hand on her baby bump as they attended the opening night of Waiting for Godot, a Broadway revival starring Keanu Reeves, on Sunday. Then on Monday, Jazz made it official in an Instagram post.
"Saw Keanu Reeves on broadway and now I'm 9 months pregnant ❤️ this is very on brand for me," she wrote. I made a deal with this baby to let me make it to this before labor, not sure what it wants in return but I'm CLEARLY a woman of my word."
Indeed, she is. It was during his January 2024 Emmy win that Culkin asked his wife for a third baby. "I want more," he said. "You said, 'Maybe,' if I win! I love you so much!"
Then, in March, as he won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in "A Real Pain," he used his speech as an opportunity to remind his wife of what she had later told him. And in fact, she was already pregnant when he made that Oscar speech.
"I have to thank my wife Jazz for absolutely everything, for giving me my favorite people in the world. Please don’t play the music ’cause I wanna tell a really quick story about Jazz," he said. He added:
"About a year ago, I was on the stage like this, and I very stupidly, publicly, said that I want a third kid from her because she said if I won the award … she would give me the kid. Turns out she said that ’cause she didn’t think I was gonna win….
After the show we’re walking through a parking lot… we’re trying to find her car … and she goes, ‘Oh, God, I did say that. I guess I owe you a third kid.’ And I turned to her and I said, ‘Really, I want four.’ And she turned me — I swear to God this happened. It was just over a year ago — she said, ‘I will give you four when you win an Oscar.’"
The couple shook hands, and on the night he won the Oscar, Culkin brought up their bet for the first time since they made it. "I just have this to say to you, Jazz, love of my life, ye of little faith. No pressure. I love you. I'm really sorry I did this again. Let's get cracking on those kids, whaddaya say? I love you."
Culkin received backlash for the comment, with people on the internet calling him misogynistic. One X user said, “This is his biggest moment in his career and he uses it to put her down and put her in her place. Additionally, demanding children in front of an international audience with all those witnesses is like a public proposal: It is designed to pressure the woman into saying yes, stomping on her choice.”
Culkin and Charton, however, already knew that baby number three was on the way. Time will tell if they go for baby number four.
Culkin has been vocal about his love for his family, saying, “[T]he real stuff is me being home with my kids, when I’m reading them books and singing them songs until they go to sleep. That’s the whole point of life. The rest of it I’m doing so I can get back to that.”
Last year, he told Variety magazine that when it comes to being a father, “nothing else matters.”
“When I look at my life before I had kids, I’m like, ‘Oh yeah, this was some guy who like, had hobbies and liked things. This isn’t a real person,'” he said. “… I’m a dad now, and that’s my only actual role in life is that, that’s real life, and all this is lovely, but I’m just trying to get home.”
The couple has two other children — six-year-old Kinsey Sioux and four-year-old Wilder Wolf.
