‘More beautiful than we could have imagined’: Couple ‘blessed’ by son born with limb differences

Life is a precious gift, and the journey of Bonnie and Tyler Cox of Reidsville, North Carolina, proves just that. During their 20-week anatomy scan, the couple received unexpected news — their baby, Bryson, would be born lacking complete arms and legs. Though initially overwhelmed by fear and confusion, they quickly turned to their faith, trusting that Bryson’s life had a divine purpose.

“We knew Bryson was going to be amazing, no matter what,” Bryson’s mother told WFMY News. “God chose us to be his parents, and we feel so blessed.”

Baby born with no limbs gets prosthetic legs

Now eight months old, Bryson is a vibrant little boy who brings joy to everyone around him. He loves singing, playing with his toys, and — most of all — marveling at ceiling fans! His journey is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the unwavering value of every life.

Bryson began physical therapy very early, and discussions about prosthetics followed. Today, he uses temporary fiberglass legs to practice balance. As he grows, he’ll be fitted with lighter, permanent prosthetics, opening the door to milestones like taking his first steps — a moment his parents eagerly anticipate with hope and gratitude.

The Cox family affectionately refers to their prosthetics team as “Team Bryson.” This dedicated group ensures Bryson’s prosthetics evolve to meet his needs, adjusting components like sockets, feet, or joints as he grows. Their work symbolizes the beauty of compassion and innovation, helping Bryson thrive.

Currently, prosthetic arms are not a priority because Bryson is remarkably independent. His parents are letting him decide when and if he’d like adaptive tools in the future, whether for daily tasks or hobbies like baseball or golf. Their approach reflects a deep respect for Bryson’s autonomy and potential.

“He can do whatever he wants — just in his own way,” Bonnie shared.

Even everyday experiences, like shopping for shoes, have become cherished milestones for the Cox family. “Getting him shoes was something I never imagined I’d worry about,” the couple explained, “but it was the best feeling.”

Through platforms like TikTok and Instagram, the Cox family shares Bryson’s story, hoping it will inspire others who may face similar challenges. They aim to remind the world of the inherent value of every life and to show that thriving is possible, even when the path looks different than expected.

“We believe he was born like this for a reason, and we believe he has a story to tell and so we just wanna start that story,” said Tyler, “because… he’s eventually gonna tell that story on his own.” 

The couple said, “Bryson’s life is different than we imagined, but it is so much more beautiful than we could have imagined.”
