Greensboro abortion facility is closing after decades of death

A North Carolina abortion facility has closed its doors after decades of killing preborn babies.

Key Takeaways:

  • A Woman's Choice stopped committing abortions on March 31 and will close fully on April 30. It opened in the 1960s in a predominantly Black community.

  • Pro-life advocates have prayed and worked for years to shut down the facility.

  • One woman who underwent an abortion there told Live Action News she is feeling "relief [and] gratitude" over its closure.

The Details:

After decades of operation, A Woman's Choice in Greensboro has announced that abortion services at the facility ended on March 31, and the facility will close permanently on April 30.

“When I heard it was closing, I felt joy and disbelief all at once,” Sarah Dove told Live Action News. “A day we wondered if would ever come, has finally arrived! The power of God’s people in partnership with His Spirit is mighty! Praise God for lives saved!”

Dove first entered the clinic in 2008 as a client, overwhelmed and unsure. Twelve years later, she found herself standing on the same sidewalk, this time praying for those she could so easily relate to. It was on that sidewalk where she heard God’s call to open Arms of Grace Pregnancy Resource Center.

In 2020, Jessica walked into A Woman’s Choice in fear — fear of medical complications, fear of an abusive relationship, fear of leaving her daughter without a mother. She remembers the atmosphere vividly: the coldness of the staff, the darkness she felt spiritually, and the overwhelming sense that this was not healthcare.

Her abortion plunged her into depression and suicidal thoughts. But when she became pregnant again in 2022, despite facing the same medical risks she feared before, she chose life, and now, she is so grateful she did.

Though she didn’t feel she deserved healing, she eventually attended an Alive Again retreat through Not Forgotten Ministries. There, she found freedom she never imagined possible. Today, she leads abortion recovery groups, helping other women find the same healing she received.

When she saw the news that the clinic was closing, she cried. She told Live Action News she was feeling “relief, gratitude, [and] thanksgiving.” Jessica hopes that now more women will find real care, real support, and real hope.

“When they are fully closed and I feel it is God's timing, I plan to go back there. To pray and thank God for His healing, His freedom, His forgiveness, and His provision,” she said.

For ministry leaders like Dustin Wilson of Love Life, the closure is the fruit of years — even generations — of prayer.

“Since 2018, Love Life has been mobilizing the Church in Greensboro through prayer walks,” he explained to Live Action News. “God has answered the prayers of thousands of Christians and hundreds of churches who have stepped into the abortion mission field. We rejoice that this clinic is closed, but we also know there is still work to be done.”

He also reflected on the pastors and faithful advocates who prayed outside the clinic in the 1980s and 1990s, long before organized ministries existed.

The Backstory:

A Woman's Choice in Greensboro traces its roots back to the late 1960s, when abortion advocacy groups began strategically placing clinics in minority neighborhoods across the country. Greensboro was no exception.

The clinic was established in a predominantly Black community — a placement that many pro‑life leaders have long argued was intentional, and part of a broader pattern of targeting certain populations.

According to Life News, the abortion facility was once one of the busiest abortion sites in the region. Women traveled from across North Carolina and neighboring states to end their pregnancies there. Sidewalk counselors recall years when the parking lot never seemed to empty.

For decades, pastors, prayer warriors, and pro‑life volunteers have stood outside those doors interceding for women they would never meet and children they would never hold. Their prayers, tears, and persistence laid the foundation for what is happening today.

The Bottom Line:

The closure of A Woman’s Choice is not simply the end of a building’s operation. It is the closing of a chapter marked by fear, confusion, and pain for countless women — and, hopefully, the beginning of a new chapter marked by hope, healing, and redemption.
