Actress Gal Gadot welcomes baby during emergency surgery: ‘Giving birth is a miracle’

Actress Gal Gadot, most well-known for her role as Wonder Woman, has opened up about a delivery in which she welcomed her fourth daughter in a miracle birth fraught with danger.

Gadot wrote on social media that she was diagnosed with “a massive blood clot” in her brain during her eighth month of pregnancy. “For weeks, I had endured excruciating headaches that confined me to bed, until I finally underwent an MRI that revealed the terrifying truth,” she wrote. “In one moment, my family and I were faced with how fragile life can be. It was a stark reminder of how quickly everything can change, and in the midst of a difficult year, all I wanted was to hold on and live.”

She said she was rushed into emergency surgery, which is when her daughter, Ori, was born. “Her name, meaning ‘my light,’ wasn’t chosen by chance,” she said. “Before the surgery, I told Jaron that when our daughter arrived, she would be the light waiting for me at the end of this tunnel. Thanks to an extraordinary team of doctors at [Cedars Sinai] and weeks of dedicated care, I made it through and began the road to recovery. Today, I am fully healed and filled with gratitude for the life I’ve been given back.”

In the post, Gadot also encouraged women to listen to their bodies and be aware when something doesn’t feel right. “[A]wareness matters,” she said. “I had no idea that 3 in 100,000 pregnant women in the 30s+ age group are diagnosed with CVT (develop a blood clot in the brain). It’s so important to identify early because it’s treatable. While rare, it’s a possibility, and knowing it exists is the first step to addressing it.”

Gadot was notably pregnant while filming Wonder Woman, including during a key battle scene; at five months pregnant, she shot retakes with green fabric draped over her stomach, allowing her to still perform even as she carried her second daughter.

In her statement on X, Gadot concluded with a message urging mothers to take care of themselves, so they can take care of their babies.

“Giving birth is a miracle, a testament to the strength and resilience of our bodies and spirits. But it also demands so much from us, reminding us to care for ourselves as fiercely as we care for others,” she said. “As we celebrate Hanukkah, a holiday of light and miracles, I reflect on the personal miracle I was granted. My daughter, Ori, is a constant reminder of resilience, hope, and the strength we carry within. My wish is that we all find our light, experience our own miracles, and continue to advocate for our health and for one another.”

The Terminally Ill (End of Life) Bill is due to be debated for a final day in the House of Lords on Friday, but is generally not expected to pass during the current session of Parliament. If made into law, it would give people who meet certain criteria in England and Wales the right to end their lives at a time of their choosing, subject to safeguards and protections. Supporters have said the bill, which passed the House of Commons last year, has been "slowed by procedural obstruction" in the House of Lords. Critics have raised concerns that the bill in its current form lacked sufficient safeguards for vulnerable people. (Photo by Dan Kitwood/Getty Images)
