Abortions in New Jersey have risen since fall of Roe
Since Roe v. Wade was overturned in 2022, the number of abortions committed in New Jersey has steadily climbed, echoing nationwide trends.
In 2022, Roe v. Wade was officially overturned in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization Supreme Court decision.
The Dobbs decision did not make abortion illegal, but allowed states to make their own laws on the issue.
Though some pro-life states have enacted laws to protect preborn children from abortion, other states remain staunchly pro-abortion and have even increased abortion access.
Overall, the abortion rate has risen, both nationally and in pro-abortion states like New Jersey.
Abortions in New Jersey have steadily risen since 2022, despite the fall of Roe v. Wade, which abortion activists claimed would prevent women from accessing abortion. According to a report from the Society of Family Planning (SFP), which has a history of funding pro-abortion studies, there have been increases in abortions on both a monthly and yearly level.
In June of 2022, 4,060 abortions were committed in New Jersey; comparatively, there were 4,920 committed in June of 2025. Similar increases were seen on an annual level, with an eight percent (8%) increase from 2023 to 2024. While data for the entire year of 2025 isn't yet available, the state appears to be on track to have another increase from 2024 to 2025.

New Jersey is one of the most pro-abortion states in the country, with abortion legal and accessible through all nine months of pregnancy. Additionally, non-physicians in the state are permitted to commit abortions, and the state has a travel fund to pay for abortions if women cannot afford them. Meanwhile, pro-life efforts to help women find alternatives to abortion in the state have come under attack.
Similar abortion trends can be seen in other pro-abortion states, such as Kansas, where abortion recently hit a record high. An astounding 19,811 abortions were committed in Kansas in 2024, an increase from 19,467 abortions in 2023; it is also the most since 1973, when there were 12,612 abortions committed. Disturbingly, 2024 saw a 47% increase in abortions committed on minors.
This echoes a nationwide trend, with abortions rising despite abortion industry hysteria over Roe. Much of the increase is due to the availability of mail-order abortion pills, according to a recent study from the pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute.
In October of 2025, Guttmacher released data for 2023 and 2024 showing 1,037,950 abortions were committed in 2023 and 1,053,470 in 2024 — an increase of more than 13% from 2020. These numbers do not include so-called "self-managed abortions," in which women order abortion pills online.
This data proves that making laws to protect preborn children in some states, or even all states, is not enough, especially in this era of telehealth abortion. Hearts and minds need to be changed so that abortion becomes unthinkable and finally illegal.
