'All-trimester' abortion business plans to open in New Jersey

An abortion facility that will commit abortions past 28 weeks gestation hopes to open next year in New Jersey, the first of its kind in the state.

Key Takeaways:

  • New Jersey, one of the most pro-abortion states in the country, has launched campaigns trying to lure women from pro-life states to New Jersey for abortion, as well as smear campaigns against pregnancy resource centers (PRCs).

  • There is currently no abortion facility committing abortions past 28 weeks in the state, but a new facility plans to change that.

The Details:

Kristyn Brandi, an OB/GYN and board chair of Physicians for Reproductive Health, has previously argued that abortion is a solution for the Zika virus and the COVID-19 pandemic. She is now teaming up with nurse practitioner Catherine Obando to found the Luminosas Wellness Collective, an "all-trimester" abortion facility set to open in 2026. They have already raised $20,000 from pro-abortion donors.

“It’s up to us to create something. It’s up to us to build the systems that we want to work in, that we want to provide this exceptional care in,” Obando said. “New Jerseyans shouldn’t have to leave their state to get the care that they need.”

There are not many abortionists willing to commit abortions in the third trimester, so Brandi said they plan for that to be part of their model: training more abortionists to commit more late-term abortions. “Making sure we can train any provider who wants to provide this care is part of our model, so that way there’s a lot more of us,” she said.

Bonyen Lee-Gilmore is chief of external affairs for Patient Forward, an organization dedicated to promoting late-term abortion, and is thrilled about the possibility of another late-term abortion facility opening. “There’s a huge burden right now on all-trimester clinics. So, one more opening up in the country is a huge expansion of care,” Lee-Gilmore said.

Why It Matters:

Abortion is legal through all nine months of pregnancy in New Jersey, and the state has been actively hostile to PRCs giving women options beyond abortion. A legal battle involving the state AG's purported infringement on the free speech of a pregnancy center group is headed to the Supreme Court — First Choice Women’s Resource Centers, Inc. v. Platkin.

Now, New Jersey will take active steps to ensure more viable preborn babies die, with the opening of a facility committing violent late-term abortions.

These grisly procedures are often committed after a preborn child can survive outside of the womb, with the abortionist either dismembering the baby limb by limb (see a D&E in the video above), or injecting him or her with digoxin or potassium chloride to cause cardiac arrest and death before delivering the baby stillborn.

These procedures are not necessary during pregnancy-related emergencies; late-term abortion procedures usually take several days, while an induced emergency delivery or c-section could take as little as one hour. Some abortionists will try to rush a late-term abortion procedure to have it completed in one day, but this puts the mother at greater risk for injury.

Thousands of late-term abortions are committed every single day, and they are overwhelmingly committed for the same reasons as earlier abortions: financial insecurity, relationship problems, and so on... not largely due to health issues or to save a woman's life.

The Bottom Line:

New Jerseyans do not need an all-trimester killing business. What women need and deserve are clinics that give them real options, with support and resources that allow them to choose life and hope instead of death.
