Sex Deck: The shocking cards Planned Parenthood brought to 9th grade health class

UPDATE, 6/23/23: Education Minister Dustin Duncan said he will direct school boards throughout the province to suspend any upcoming presentations with Planned Parenthood Regina following a recent incident in which a 9th grade student gained access to a deck of cards that included pornographic language and tips on performing a variety of distorted sexual acts. He noted that the suspension does not mean that Planned Parenthood won’t be used for sex ed in the future.

“The material in question — as Minister of Education, frankly as a parent — is completely inappropriate to be in a classroom,” Duncan told reporters Thursday.

“We want to make sure that material is not going to be a part of the resources that will be provided to students … I want to make sure that the Ministry of Education, also, is undertaking a review of our own information to ensure that it is appropriate — and age-appropriate in particular.”

A spokesperson from the AIDS Committee of Toronto (ACT), which designed the cards, said the cards are meant to be a resource for gay, bisexual and queer young people aged 18 to 29, to make up for an apparent lack of sexual education for non-heterosexual people. But the cards went way beyond sex education and instead instructed readers on how to carry out dangerous sexual activities.

Duncan would not specify what the cards said because it made him uncomfortable, telling the media that if it’s uncomfortable for him to say and for them to broadcast, then that’s an “indication that it probably doesn’t need to be in the classroom.”

Planned Parenthood Regina’s executive director Julian Wotherspoon said the deck of cards was in a box of resources and wasn’t meant to be a part of the 9th grade presentation. This prompted Duncan to ask, “Why was it there in the first place?”

Duncan plans to have his ministry review the curriculum and documents over the summer break. He said while the relationship with Planned Parenthood is currently on hold, he has not ruled out allowing Planned Parenthood back into the schools in the future.

6/22/23: A school in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan is facing criticism over a Planned Parenthood sex ed presentation given to students in a ninth-grade health class. One of the resources made available to the students was a deck of sex alphabet vocabulary cards designed for students who consider themselves to be LGBTQ+. The cards are meant to act as “behavioural interventions.”

The language used is not anatomically correct or scientific; instead, the cards use pornographic slang to refer to body parts.

According to tweets from Mark Friesen, known as The Grizzly Patriot, Lumsden High School held a presentation by Planned Parenthood for students ages 14 and 15. Though the class teacher was present, inappropriate materials were made available to the children by the Planned Parenthood sex educator due to the school’s apparent failure to fully review the organization’s agenda.

“This is how sick our government run education system is. @PremierScottMoe seriously? Here’s what they are handing out to grade 9 students in #Saskatchewan,” tweeted Friesen. Attached to the tweet is a pdf document showing the full deck of sex cards which include a sex act for every letter of the alphabet and cartoon images to go along with each act. Alphabet materials and cartoon images are typically associated with children — making it clear who this sex deck is targeting.

The cards

The directions for the cards state, “Sex from A-Z is a set of cards intended for gay, bi and queer young people. This is a fun and accessible resource that facilitates humorous and frank discussion among young people about sexuality and HIV and STI prevention. It can also be used by service providers as a discussion tool in workshops and training sessions.”

Content Warning: Even the text on this deck of cards is disturbing.

The cards are meant for adult volunteers to use in order to introduce and discuss sexual activity with teens.

Suggestions for the volunteers include groomer-esque conversations regarding sexual actions in a “sex-positive” manner that includes asking the students about any “personal experience” they have with the array of sexual activities presented on the cards. The sex educator is advised to celebrate all of the activities, even — and especially — when the children react negatively.

“Affirm choices, theirs and other people’s who might be into the topic,” state the directions. It advises that if a student reacts in a negative way to a sexual activity, the volunteer state, “A lot of people think that’s really hot!” causing the child who found the card to be inappropriate to possibly feel shamed and like the odd man out.

The cards are so R-rated that Live Action News cannot display photos of them, but some of the information has been included below, along with a link to the card information.

The activities that Planned Parenthood is teaching teens are “hot” include ones that at least some of the young students likely — and hopefully — have never heard of. It encourages behaviors including masturbation, being restrained during sex, bisexuality, sex through a hole in the wall with strangers, and group sex. One card tells the 14- and 15-year-olds to “break out the buttery popcorn” when “watching porn.”

Examples of cards include A for “Auto-Fellatio” and B for “Bisexual.” The bisexual card states, “Someone who is attracted to both men and women. It must be nice to have so much selection. The world is your oyster — Go out and crack open a few! Just remember, regardless of gender, strap on a condom with water-based lubricant before diving in.”

Additional cards discuss being attracted to your television, ingesting fecal matter, thinking about your “hot gym teacher from high school” in order to get an erection, and claims that semen ‘tastes good.’ An orgasm is likened to “demonic possession” and homosexual behavior is encouraged.

The K card encourages kink sex, calling it simply “non-traditional sex” and saying that “for some, being restrained with a ball gag, while being tickled by their hooded master is an everyday occurrence…”

Still, other cards tell teens they are “one lucky duck” if they engage in sexual activities with more than one person at a time and suggest that having anal sex without a condom is fine as long you “get tested regularly for HIV and STIs.”

The school’s response

Friesen also shared an image of what appears to be an email from Lumsden High School to the parents, though this could not be verified.

It states, “On Monday, June 19 the Health 9 classes had a presentation provided by Planned Parenthood. The target of [the] lesson related to contraceptives, sexually transmitted infections, and consent. During the presentation, the classroom teacher was always in the room. In addition to the presentation students did have an opportunity to obtain secondary resources from a side table that were not referred to during the presentation. Staff do preview resources, but one of the resources consisted of an A to Z sexual vocabulary which was not in the scope of the Grade 9 Health curriculum. Planned Parenthood did share that a single copy of the resource was taken by a Lumsden High School student.”

The message also claimed that the school contacted Planned Parenthood to have the cards removed from future presentations in district schools. It did not, however, state that the relationship between the schools and Planned Parenthood would be terminated.

Ongoing problem

Planned Parenthood sex ed classes have proven to be an ongoing problem that government and school officials seem unwilling to solve.

Earlier this month, a Washington state elementary school came under fire for using Planned Parenthood sex ed materials that parents learned about only after the lessons took place. In that incident, nine-year-olds were shown drawings of pubic hair shaped like a cat and a heart, drawings of vaginas and penises, and other drawings that featured “examples of intersex variation.” Elementary students were told they could pick from a number of contrived genders to identify as. Some of the materials promoted use of so-called “puberty blockers” and the students were told that they had to do what was right for them.

Monica Cline, a former family planning Training Manager and volunteer educator for Planned Parenthood has been trying to warn parents of the abortion corporation’s efforts to indoctrinate children. When Cline was working for Planned Parenthood, she said the goal was not to educate children about sex, but to encourage it with the use of contraceptives. The end goal was to create a client base.

Target petition

Parents and children trust schools and teachers, so Planned Parenthood uses schools as an entry point to reach children, gain their trust, and turn them into clients. The children are groomed to go to Planned Parenthood for birth control and sex advice. Then the children will return to Planned Parenthood for STI testing and treatment and abortion.

“These programs are created to teach children about sexuality in order for them to become sexually active,” Cline told EWTN in 2021, adding, “These programs are about sexualizing children and leading them to abortion. That is what sex education is. Comprehensive sexuality education is all about grooming children, and using it as a marketing tool to lead to abortion.”
