As Live Action previously News documented, Planned Parenthood closure announcements are routinely misleading, as it was already planning to move toward an online virtual business model. Furthermore, consolidation of facilities and merging of affiliates is typical for Planned Parenthood, and this has happened multiple times in past years.

Planned Parenthood is also not short on funding; Live Action researcher Carole Novielli explained,

From 2024-25, before the BBB took effect, a record breaking $832 million was funneled to Planned Parenthood from taxpayers’ pockets while it killed more than 434,000 preborn children – a record number on both counts.

During that same "killer year," Planned Parenthood’s own reports showed plummeting health care services, like cancer screenings and well woman exams, among other actual health services, all while reporting net assets of more than $3.1 billion.

In April 2025, Planned Parenthood of Michigan (PPMI) announced a plan to close "three of its facilities, consolidat[e] two others, and reduc[e] its workforce by 10%." This is despite the fact that Planned Parenthood of Michigan received nearly $18M in state funding from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services in 2024-25. This was, of course, months prior to the passage of the "Big, Beautiful Bill" which defunded abortion providers of federal Medicaid dollars for one year.

The overwhelming majority of abortions are now committed by pill, which is likely why Planned Parenthood wants to pivot to telehealth. Since federal Medicaid defunding in July 2025, it appears the corporation has closed no more than 30 of its brick-and-mortar centers, while actually opening other centers.
