More than 17,000 estimated 'assisted' deaths in Canada for 2025
Canada is estimated to have seen 17,700 deaths from euthanasia in 2025, as the nation surpasses 100,000 deaths since legalization.
In 2026, Canada surpassed 100,000 euthanasia deaths.
There were an estimated 17,700 deaths from euthanasia in 2025 alone.
Deaths from Medical Aid in Dying (MAiD) now make up 5% of all deaths.
Alex Schadenberg with the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition, using 2025 Canadian euthanasia data, reports that Canada saw an estimated 17,700 deaths from euthanasia in 2025.
In 2023, there were 16,499 reported deaths from MAiD, which represented 5.1% of all deaths. This was a 6.9% increase from 15,427 in 2023. Health Canada has not yet released official data, but some provinces have gradually begun to release their numbers.
"Based on the official euthanasia data from Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta[,] and Nova Scotia, in those provinces, there were 10,196 reported euthanasia deaths in 2025 which was up from 9501 in 2024 representing a 7.3% increase. These provinces represent about 67.7% of Canada's population," Schadenberg wrote, predicting that there ultimately would be "17,700 reported euthanasia deaths in 2025 representing about 5.6% of all deaths and a 7.3% increase from 2024."
Officially, Canada has seen just over 76,000 total deaths from MAiD. However, EWTN reported that, including deaths in 2025 and 2026, the country has surpassed 100,000 such deaths in the 10 years it has been legalized.
“With 10 years of legalized medical homicide, Canada has the blood of over 100,000 victims on its hands — blood that cries out to God for justice,” David Cooke, the campaigns manager for the Ontario-based Campaign Life Coalition, told EWTN. “Canada’s euthanasia program is on a killing spree.”
It is a claim echoed by Schadenberg, who argued, "Based on this data, I estimate that there have been approximately 1,500 reported Canadian euthanasia deaths every month in 2026 and as of June 30, 2026, that there have been approximately 103,175 Canadian reported euthanasia deaths since legalization."
MAiD has become a leading cause of death in Canada since euthanasia was legalized in 2016, with legislators considering allowing euthanasia for mental illness; that is currently slated to take effect in 2027. Deaths from MAiD now make up five percent (5%) of all deaths in Canada, with over a fifth of applicants claiming “isolation or loneliness” as reasons for their request to die.
Reports have meanwhile shown that people have been offered MAiD for reasons such as poverty, homelessness, and an inability to access disability or mental health services. These abuses will almost certainly get worse if the government continues with its plan of legalizing MAiD for mental illness.
Canada has become the world leader in euthanasia in just 10 short years, and tragically, shows no signs of slowing down.
