Massachusetts man will go unpunished after stealing from pro-lifers
A man who stole from pro-lifers in Boston, Massachusetts, will face no charges after the prosecutor dropped the charges. This means he will not have to pay any fines or restitution to the people he victimized.
Zachary Pelletier stole a four-sided display from a group of pro-lifers who were in front of a Planned Parenthood facility on June 18th. According to a Catholic Action League of Massachusetts press release, Pelletier was apprehended with the sign later the same day, and was arrested. He was charged with Larceny Under $1200, which is a misdemeanor. Punishment can include jail time and fines, as well as the possibility of making restitution to the victims. While jail time would be unlikely, completely dropping all charges means Pelletier won’t even have to pay court costs, apologize, or be ordered to stay away from his victims.
Worse than the larceny charge, however, is that Pelletier explicitly infringed upon the pro-lifers’ constitutional rights. As pointed out by the Catholic Action League of Massachusetts, robbing them in the middle of the day violated their rights to freedom of assembly and speech. And yet, for some inexplicable reason, Pelletier will face absolutely no consequences for his actions.

“A civilized society is defined by its willingness to extend the protection of law to all of its people. The most fundamental purpose of government is to defend the weak from the strong, guard the innocent from the guilty, and shield the peaceful citizen from the violent aggressor,” Catholic Action League Executive Director C. J. Doyle said in the press release. “The question remains whether the sidewalk counselors of Operation Rescue: Boston are the objects of official indifference due to ideological bias, or have simply become the latest victims of the reckless and revolutionary nihilism of [Office of Suffolk County District Attorney] Rachel Rollins, or both. Whatever the answer, given the repeated and unpunished attacks on Christians, conservatives and pro-life Catholics in Boston in 2019, it would seem that Massachusetts is becoming, politically, a Third World society.”
It’s not unusual for abortion activists to lash out at pro-lifers. Signs promoting a talk at UCLA featuring Live Action founder and president Lila Rose were stolen earlier this year, for example. And in other circumstances of theft, it’s also not unusual for the perpetrator to go unpunished. When one disabled pro-life activist tried to prevent someone from stealing a sign, the pro-life activist was the one arrested. Yet despite these attempts to keep stifling pro-life speech, the truth cannot be hidden, and the pro-life movement will not be stopped by petty thefts and attacks.
