Lindsay Lohan embraces motherhood: ‘Having a baby is the greatest joy’

Actress Lindsay Lohan is celebrating life as a new mom, and is opening up about how she feels about having carried her son and given birth.

In an Instagram post on Wednesday, Lohan wrote, “I am so proud of what this body was able to accomplish during these months of pregnancy and now, recovery.” She and her husband Bader Shammas recently welcomed their son Luai, which means “shield or protector,” though the exact date of his birth has not been revealed.

“Having a baby is the greatest joy in the world! My OOTD [outfit of the day] lately is my @fridamom postpartum underwear. Because I’m not a regular mom, I’m a postpartum mom,” she wrote.

Lohan had previously suffered a miscarriage in 2014, sharing with the world that this was why she missed weeks of filming for her reality show at the time. “No one knows this; I had a miscarriage for those two weeks that I took off. It’s a very long story,” she said through tears. “That’s why on the show when it says she doesn’t want to come down, I couldn’t move, I was sick. Mentally, that messes with you.”

According to People, Lohan’s mother Dina Lohan shared that her daughter has wanted to have a baby for a while. “We have a big family, so she’s always wanted children. And she’s so maternal. Isabelle, her niece, just runs to her when she sees her.”

Live Action’s own Sami Parker also recently shared her joys of motherhood in a video. “I never really dreamed of being a mom,” she said, “until I became one.”

She wrote, “I never could have imagined what a joyfrul experience motherhood was going to be. From the flutters, to the kicks, to birth and now the belly laughs, this boy truly is the biggest teeny gift.”

Motherhood should always be celebrated, whether a baby is unplanned or is conceived after months or years of trying. The joy is immeasurable, and no reason — not a mother’s age, not her income, not her marital or social status — justifies denying a mother the gift of her child because an abortion is what is “expected” of her in her situation. Every baby is a gift.
