Singer John Legend campaigns for Ohio abortion amendment under guise of ‘family’ and ‘freedom’

Singer John Legend has joined up with Ohioans United for Reproductive Rights to campaign for the amendment to codify abortion into the Ohio constitution.

In a clip posted on TikTok and Instagram, as well as other social media channels, Legend criticized the state’s law protecting preborn children from abortion. “My fellow Ohioans, our chance to stop the government’s extreme abortion ban is on the ballot in November,” he said. “Issue 1 will get politicians out of personal decisions about abortion. So it’s time for us to vote yes on Issue 1 by November 7th. Early voting starts October 11th, you can vote early now. Let’s stand up for our families and our freedoms.”

The upcoming referendum would “establish a state constitutional right to ‘make and carry out one’s own reproductive decisions,’ including decisions about abortion, contraception, fertility treatment, miscarriage care, and continuing pregnancy.” According to opponents, it would allow abortion until birth, and effectively bar parents from having knowledge or consent regarding their minor children’s abortions. CatholicVote has previously reported that the abortion industry has spent millions of dollars into the campaign.

Both pro-life and parental rights groups have been fighting against the initiative, pointing out that it is overly vague and removes parental consent. “As a parent, I could be cut out of these decisions that my child is making,” mother Libby McCartney said in an ad for Protect Women Ohio (PWO). “[S]he could get an abortion or get a procedure done, and I don’t even know about it. That’s what’s scary.”

Together, we can end abortion and create a future where every child is cherished and every mother is supported.

Legend and his wife, Chrissy Teigen, experienced a tragic pregnancy loss in 2020, when their baby boy, Jack, passed away. “We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before,” Teigen wrote at the time. “We were never able to stop the bleeding and give our baby the fluids he needed, despite bags and bags of blood transfusions. It just wasn’t enough.”

Later, Teigen claimed she had undergone an abortion, though an induced abortion is an act in which the goal and intent is to produce a dead child. Yet based on what Teigen has said, neither she nor the doctors intentionally caused Jack’s death; on the contrary, it seems they did everything they possibly could to save him. Yet Teigen appeared to willingly exploit her son’s death to promote abortion… and now, her husband is seemingly doing the same, supporting intentional killing under the guise of standing for “families” and “freedom.”

Abortion ends the lives of members of the human family; because abortion is the intentional homicide of preborn human beings, it cannot be reasonably construed as a ‘right’ or ‘freedom’.
