The Hyde Amendment: - Prevents tax $ from funding abortion - Has been passed yearly for 40+ years - Has saved 2 million children - Saves 60,000 children yearly - Is supported by the majority of Americans Any attempt to repeal the amendment is cruel and grossly out of touch.

Democrats’ plan to force taxpayers to fund abortion would cost millions of lives
When it comes to abortion, the Democratic Party and its presidential candidates seem to want the way of Illinois to become the way of the United States. Last year, Illinois’ former Republican governor and ardent Planned Parenthood supporter Bruce Rauner signed a law requiring taxpayers to pay for abortions for people enrolled in the state’s Medicaid program. The result? A nearly 2000% increase in taxpayer-funded abortions. That means that, stunningly, taxpayer funded abortions in the state ballooned to eight times as many as the previous year. As previously reported by Live Action News:
After a 2018 law that allowed insurance to cover elective abortion for Medicaid recipients and members of the state employee health insurance plan went into effect, the state of Illinois issued reimbursements for 1,561 abortions from January to June 2018. According to a department spokesperson, in that same period in 2017, the state made reimbursements for just 84 abortions.
That’s a 1758% increase (1,477 abortions) in just one year. The women receiving taxpayer-funded abortions were as young as 12.
With these alarming results coming from just one state, one can only imagine how much those numbers would skyrocket — and just how much taxpayers would have to pay — should the federal Hyde Amendment be repealed. Yet that’s exactly what Democrats are attempting to do, claiming that since minorities and poor people ‘need’ abortions, taxpayers should foot the bill.

The Hyde Amendment, according to a recent Live Action News article, is “a rider that has been added to every appropriations bill since 1976, which states that federal funds cannot be used to pay for abortion. In other words, it prevents people from using taxpayer-funded Medicaid to pay for abortions.” The Hyde Amendment wasn’t meant to punish people. It was meant to protect them — both abortion-vulnerable women as well as federal taxpayers. And this federal ban on taxpayer funding of abortions has actually saved well over two million lives since 1976 — approximately 60,000 every year. That would change drastically if the Hyde Amendment were repealed.
The Hyde Amendment prevents our tax dollars from directly funding abortion 61% of Americans 41% of Democrats 87% of Republicans Oppose or strongly oppose taxpayer-funded abortion Repealing the Hyde Amendment would cause an immediate political & societal loss.
Despite what Democrats are claiming on the campaign trail — while taking their marching orders from groups like Planned Parenthood and NARAL Pro-Choice America — taxpayers overwhelmingly disapprove of the idea of paying for other people’s abortions.
A 2016 Marist poll found that 62% of Americans oppose taxpayer funding of abortion, including “65 percent of African-Americans, 61 percent of Latinos, and 45 percent of those who say they are pro-choice, as well as 84 percent of Republicans, 61 percent of Independents and 44 percent of Democrats.”
A 2019 Marist poll reported that “by a double-digit margin, a majority of all Americans oppose any taxpayer funding of abortion (54 percent to 39 percent),” and 75% oppose taxpayer funding of abortion in other countries.
