Concerned citizen rescues crying newborn from Nevada dumpster
On Saturday, a crying newborn baby was found abandoned in a dumpster in pro-abortion Nevada, where a Safe Haven Law allows newborns to be surrendered at designated locations up to 30 days after birth.
A passerby heard a newborn baby crying in a dumpster in Sun Valley, Nevada on July 5.
The concerned citizen called police and jumped into the dumpster to save the baby.
The baby is in good condition at Renown Regional Medical Center.
Nevada has a Safe Haven Law that allows newborns up to 30 days old to be left at designated safe locations, no questions asked.
According to NBC News 4, Washoe County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to Sun Valley Blvd on July 5, at about 1 p.m. when a concerned citizen dialed 911 after walking near a dumpster in a parking lot and hearing a baby crying. That citizen found the baby inside the dumpster and immediately climbed in to save the child.
Emergency medical personnel arrived and brought the baby to Renown Regional Medical Center where he or she is said to be in good condition.
“This child is alive today because of the swift and selfless actions of a community member who didn’t hesitate to help,” said Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam. “We’re incredibly grateful for her courage and quick thinking. I also want to remind our community that there are safe and legal options for anyone in crisis; no baby should ever be left in danger.”
Police are investigating.
Newborn abandonment is a widespread problem, and inspired the creation of Safe Haven Laws, which exist in every state.

These laws allow parents to surrender newborns safely and anonymously at specific locations, no questions asked. In Nevada, babies up to 30 days old can be brought to hospitals, fire stations, law enforcement agencies, emergency medical services providers or other health care facilities. The provider must take possession of the child immediately and ensure they are safe. The parents will not face any charges related to abandonment.
While abortion proponents may argue that newborn abandonment is an issue solely for pro-life states, this is clearly untrue. Nevada allows abortion for any reason through 24 weeks, and in certain circumstances through 40 weeks.
As the abortion pill becomes more readily available over the internet and through the mail, more babies are likely to be found abandoned — either dead or alive — in every state in the country.
