Teen mom canceled abortion: ‘Children are NOT a detriment to our success’

Today, Becky Martin is a pro-life advocate, but as a pro-choice pregnant high school senior, she scheduled an appointment to undergo an abortion. She canceled that appointment, went on to accomplish her goals, and today, she’s the mom of eight children.

Martin shared a video on Tik Tok last week that has garnered over 210,000 views and countless comments. She shares her story of choosing life as a teen, despite the fears and bullying she faced. “Gets pregnant in hs… *I’ll lose my scholarships *embarrass my family *never go to college or get a degree,” she wrote. “I’ll struggle forever!” Click on the image below to watch:

Those fears led her to schedule an abortion, but she overcame her fears and changed her mind. In the video, she shows viewers everything she would have missed out on had she gone through with the abortion — all of the precious moments of her son’s life that would have never happened. After people learned of her pregnancy, she received harsh criticism, but she still accomplished her goals.

“I discovered many free resources for moms & kids[,] I graduated as one of the valedictorians[,] I still received scholarships & attended college,” she said. “I earned my bachelors in math with highest honors[,] I got a job I loved.”

In a separate video, Martin shared that she faced judgment, gossip, snide remarks, and “[d]esperate women asking for my baby.” She even received a letter from a woman who told her she didn’t deserve the scholarships she earned, that she should hang her head in shame, and that taxpayers were “tired of paying for these kids.” She also called Martin a “whore” and a “slut.”

Today Martin is a pro-life advocate with eight children. Her husband adopted her son and together they had three biological children and adopted four more. She wants other women facing unplanned pregnancies to know that they don’t have to choose abortion.

“Ladies… Motherhood is NOT a drawback,” she said. “Children are NOT a detriment to our success. In fact, often they’re great motivators. You can still accomplish ALL of your goals. Don’t let society convince you otherwise.”

In response to her video about choosing life, Martin received multiple comments from women who didn’t cancel their abortion appointments and lived to regret it.

“I didn’t cancel the appointment and honestly, it wasn’t difficult at first,” wrote one woman. “I was still young. But the more life I live the more I regret it.”

Another woman wrote, “This made me have chills and tears. I didn’t cancel and I’m still regretting it 32 years later. I never had any other children. I’ve always wondered[.]”

Other women told Martin that despite working hard to heal, the pain is still there 23 years after the abortion and that they wish they knew then what they know now about abortion.

Martin was able to access resources that are readily available for women facing unplanned pregnancies — resources the abortion industry doesn’t tell women about. Pro-life pregnancy centers connect women and girls to health care, baby gear, childcare, and safe housing. There is no need for a woman to abort, no matter what challenges she is facing.
